I’ve seen some Crait themed basing floating around and wanted to give it a shot for my rebels. Here’s my first experiment.

Has anyone else tried Crait bases? Any tips?

Personally, I'd suggest starting with a fine sand, prime it with a rust red and highlight with a true red.

When that completely dries, seal it. Then use the crystal clear tacky glue (Aileens is a great option), and use some of the fine, white craft sand to sprinkle over the areas you want white. The craft sand looks a lot more like the salt layer than most other options I've seen and the local dollar store, for me, has the sand there.

I’m going to do the base with some Vallejo brown earth or whatever their sand texture is, then paint it up magenta / black / red for some variety. Then I’ll top that with Citadel agrellan earth while leaving some of the red exposed. When the agrellan earth dries and cracks, I’ll drybrush it white and pale grey.

I suggest giving magnetic iron oxide - epoxy mix with a strong magnetic under the base a try.
