S-Foils and Expert Handling

If they are open, it’s pretty obvious that No Stress is given because the open foil states you can do a barrel roll action.

Question is what if it’s closed. My initial thought is you’d get stressed. Then again, the ship CAN do the action but it’s limited to the foils being open. Other rulings have said if it can do something but something prevents it, then it can still meet requirements of a card that requires it.

So community thoughts?

If the S-Foils are closed then the X-Wing CAN NOT perform a BR-Action on its own and thus Expert Handling is going to add Stress. Your Dual Upgrade is only one or the other; you can't have both at the same time.

EH requires you to have the [roll] action icon to avoid receiving a stress. When using a dual sided card, only the face up side is able to interact with other cards as per the last line of the Dual Upgrade Cards Reference Card :

P.S. To sum up: it's not whether you are able to perform a barrel roll, but rather whether your ship possesses the relevant icon.
