So are we seeing the end of 3Xs, cause now with 3 X-wings you can legitimately afford adding an naked A-wing to the mix as well, there is not enough points to throw at the x wings to even have just 3.
Now yes this is better for the X wings in the long run I'm just sad that 3 Xs just is SO cheap you might as well throw another ship in there. I miss the thematic flight

if your list contains a 31 point LW r2-d2 luke, you'd be sitting on a 43 point end game

that seems like it'd compete with most point fortresses short of kylo or full health casters

Take those three, put refit/FAA/servos/IA on all three. Put Predator on Wedge and Luke, VI on Wes. That leaves 13 points for either a Z-95 with a one point bit or Zeb in the H-Wing.

Or find a measly 3 more points to throw in an AP-5!

5x Rookies with IA amounts to 30 health for our TIEs to have to chew through. Landing 30 damage past 2 agility is...going to take some effort.

I haven't really looked into the new Saw upgrades.

But I have been flying Wes/Wedge/Luke at PS10 and don't see myself changing too much.

Guess I'll have to look at those new cards, but not too worried.

Though crackswarm could probably still bulldoze through Xs, I think your more "cinematic" match-up will be less OT and more Rogue 1

could be 5 strikers and a crack TIE or 5 strikers (can get LWF countdown and Pure Sabacc alongside 2 Scraif defenders and 1 scout, which should give you an edge over 5 Xs)

or down to 4 Strikers escorting a Reaper (though palp being aboard is decidedly non-canon )

5 Scarif Defenders versus 5 Rookie Pilots is going to be an interesting matchup as is, and one I'll be interested to play.

• Both have 3 attack dice, barrel roll and multiple end-around moves (assuming you've got S-foils in attack position)
• The X-wings have an effective +2 hit points and much greater tolerance for criticals whilst the Strikers have a conditional third green die (won't apply at range 3 or against shots from a ship with closed S-foils) which @ficklegreendice can entertain himself rolling blanks.
• Both get an action-free reposition - the X-wings is optional if nothing is in arc after their manoeuvre, the striker's has no trigger other than not being stressed but is compulsory.
• The Strikers have a greater ability to weave at medium speed with bank-segnor or bank-bank chains, whilst the X-wings can manoeuvre better in straight lines and slow (speed 4 + boost exceeds a striker's top speed whilst speed 1 straight or bank is significantly below a striker's minimum speed)
• The Strikers win the PS race - only just, but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, and 5 focused range 2 3-dice attacks should on average kill an X-wing before it fires. However:
  • being the higher PS with a high minimum speed opens the strikers up to being blocked and losing shots and actions - especially with the X-wing's better top speed and minimum speed allowing (in theory) good range control.
  • In a close-quarter, collision-heavy mess, taking whatever unmodified shots present themselves, moving first on a known board state, and durability based on shield tokens not unmodified green dice probably favours the X-wings (the same reason Cartel Marauders were favoured over Zealous Recruits as scum heavy swarmers even pre-Vaksai title).
  • 4 X-wings firing back should in theory kill an Striker in return.

I will be interested to see what the generic reaper is like cost and capability wise; because if you can pull strikers from the swarm and drop in reapers 1 for 1 (roughly) you gain a B-wing-esque toughness* but drop from the better PS to a worse one. Jamming is nice against anyone else other than a heavy swarm, though**.

* On the assumption that if you can fit in a generic Reaper in 20 points, you probably won't get one with Advanced Ailerons and Lightweight Frame.

** Because spending an action to remove an action is a decent trade when it's trading a '20 point action' on a Reaper for a '40 point action' on Poe Dameron. A heavy swarmer jamming another heavy swarmer is normally at best breaking even.

Remember Renegade Refit allows you to take a second modification. No-one mandates what it is. Servomotor S-Foils is a nice card for a free upgrade, but, you can pack shield upgrades, or hull upgrades or experimental interface. For example:

Unless I misunderstand something, this only gets 3 points per ship cheaper when you add in the Refits and Servos, so 96 is a massive exaggeration on the maximum price given that, as noted, you can spend actual points on mods (AT/Engine being a very good idea, or Shield Upgrade on top of R2D2/Integrated for a 7HP regenning tank). This is 99 with Expertise and a 4 or 3 point astro per ship.
