Spell: ice (or freez) on the LoD?

By Fredrik Winde, in Talisman Rules Questions

This happend to me tonight when we played, I rolled a die and whanted to go to the LoD to fight him, having a shoot at the CoC.

Before I rolled, another character cast a spell called ice (I think, or freez, don`t remember the name), and puts it on the LoD.

The card says that no character may move to this space, they must continuing there move beyond this space, clockwise or counterclockwise.

Now.... beacuse there is no space beyond the LoD, what to do? I said that the spell didn`t work on this space, I must stop and fight, what is right?

This is the Black Ice spell, and what a weird situation!

If the Grim Reaper lands on that space and continues on he can go to anywhere else on the board ( except the Inner Region ), please correct me if I'm wrong on this. I would hazard as this is the only precedent that you might want to use that as your guideline and you get a free teleport to anywhere in the Outer or Middle Regions...

Dungeon rules state that you end your movement in the Treasure Chamber, even if you had movement to continue on. I would probably see Black Ice as being useless when cast in the Treasure Chamber, since you can't leave it before fighting the LoD. Note that Reaper isn't a character and isn't affected by Black Ice.

It says something like you have to move one space further, so since you bumped into the wall I guess you would just ... bump back into room?

He probably wouldn't be able to cast it! You need a legal target, like you say Dam, it wouldn't have any affect in the room, and it's been clearly said in regards to spells that you need a clear target for it to work.

I think the correct interpretation is: you can cast Black Ice on any space (so any space where a Character ends his move is a legal target) and if cast on the Treasure Chamber it will be useless, since movement cannot proceed further. If you have extra movement points and move towards Treasure Chamber, you end your movement there and extra points are wasted.

Now I'm not at home and can't check, but are there some limitations regarding Black Ice (written on the card)? because there are many weird situations, such as casting Black Ice on the Sentinel Space. Character can change direction and go further in Outer Region or across the bridge... who decides, and is the "slipping" Character supposed to fight the Sentinel? Can Black Ice be used in the Inner region? I also can't check if you must cast the Spell on another Character of any Character (including yourself).

No Black Ice on the Inner Region. Too lazy to check gui%C3%B1o.gif , but IIRC it reads something like you continue in the direction you were going, so no slipping past the Sentinel (if coming from Chapel corner, slide toward Village and vice versa). Black Ice is cast on a space after a char rolls but before they move.

I'm finally at home and not too lazy to checkgran_risa.gif, so I confirm that Black Ice is forbidden in the Inner Region. There's an important note in brackets:,clockwise or counterclockwise, which prevents passing between regions (Outer and Middle, Middle and Inner, Outer and Dungeon). If there wasn't that note a player could argue that he was going towards the other region and nobody could say anything against it.

I also notice that the Spell is cast after "a character" rolls for movement, so you can also use Black Ice to make your Character slip one space further and adjust your movement. Sometimes it could be useful.

i like to use black ice on my character when i draw a magic stream or if im around other characters and dont have much life
