I have held off adding an Upsilon into my collection as I couldn't see it being actually squad-worthy, certainly in tournaments, but also in pint games... least not any better than my beloved Lambdas. I have had a moment to reflect and think of adding one. Is this folly as I thought prior or is it a good add?
Inquiry into the Upsilon....
All I can say is that a barrel-rolling Upsilon is a thing of beauty.
pretty much folly. it's way too expensive and dies super fast
only two things it does of any note are largely jank, but they are at least silly fun
first is just use Striden with some focus-farting gimmick like Fleet Officer/Hux, advanced sensors and systems officer. ACTION out focus, using sensors so you can do so even if you bump and/or green to clear the stress, and then dovetail into system officer's free lock. Fits with two 28 point ships, probably alpha-wings or x7s with Omega Leader floating around as an option
second is Ridin' Dirty Ren, the OG silencer

| Expert Handling | 2 |
| Collision Detector | 0 |
| Emperor Palpatine | 8 |
| Advanced Optics | 2 |
| Pattern Analyzer | 2 |
| Ship Total: 48 | |
so you just green maneuver PA to barrel-roll without retaining stress. You can Col Detector to roll onto debris for no negative repercussions whatsoever. It's a hilarious novelty given the size and clunkiness of the ship itself
Palp can be used to trigger Kylo's ability, and is also ******* palp
Optics for mods, because you're still a 4-die primary
Honestly, optics may or may not make it a LOT better than it was. It gives you a good alpha for that one turn you'll probably have of actually using the dang guns. If you're real ballsy, you can try to milk some synergy off of this alpha by using FCS and targeting synchronizer (since you'll be using TL with optics to fart out a fully modified four die primary). Personally, highly doubt it

I love the thing. It's pretty tricky to fly and good players will take you down. But it has some fun game mechanics with its number of crew and tech slots.
Here's what I do:

Harpoon Missiles (4)
Long-Range Scanners (0)

Stridan maintains two target locks and spends his TLs when the gunboats shoot off their missiles. The gunboats can always maintain their TL's and Stridan can give a coordinate/reload when necessary.

Its gimmicky like fickle stated. Its not much fun to fly, so dont get it to "have fun". Its as fun as a Uwing. Pattern analyzer and Engine upgrade make it fun, or even Kylo with Daredevil. But that makes it 40tps already. UGH. This thing should have been 25 base pts with 3 red dice.
I'd probably pass on buying it unless you need the cards or fulfilling your collection.
