Hype the Hyperspace Report (minigame day 1): "As I have forseen it"

By Darth Veggie, in Star Wars: Armada

Next Tuesday the Hyperspace Report will come over us. And because of that I start a week of minigames in order to hype it (yes, I know there is a chance that nothing Armada will happen - so we might get the complete hype-anger-dark side spiral; but hey, maybe that means that more dark side carrots will be eaten!)

From today on, I will every day post on the forums a minigame linked to a Star Wars quote. Best case, either the quote or the minigame is somehow hyperspace (report) related. The prize of each minigame will be farming likes :D

Today's minigame:

a11ce1439d3838e95de6ff3464ce7536f3f7d13a

  • Post in this thread the ability of a new uprade card, of a new pilot ace, or of a new squadron keyword you think that will be revealed next tuesday (point costs are irrelevant).
  • It does not count, if you simply repost a mechanism already posted by another player of this minigame.
  • Victory conditions: If you have got the mechanism right, you have won! (By the nature of this minigame, multiple victorious players are possible).
  • Prize: Each player agrees to like the guesses of all players who are victorious (which will be revealed by the Hyperspace Report on tuesday).
  • As always: Darth Veggie is not allowed to participate in these minigames, but he will like every serious (or funny) participation in this minigame for spirit of competiton reasons.
  • FAQ for this minigame: Question: "I am a developer and know all the new content. Am I allowed to participate?". Answer: "Yes, please spoil everthing in advance. For this, I love to ruin this minigame!" :D

Example contribution:

  • Rogue Connection (officer; unique; no side affiliation): Place a scatter token on this card. While a friendly unique single peg squadron with the keyword "rogue" is defending in distance 1-5, it can spend this token.

That would be my guess. I am sure you can do better!

Tomorrows minigame will be named after a quote from rogue one: "We're detecting a massive object emerging from Hyperspace!"

Officer: Captain Piett - You may Re-roll 1 attack dice when this ship attacks. When your commander dies promote Captain Piett to Adrmiral (Commander)

Commander: Admiral Piett - You may re-roll up to 2 attack dice on the first attack of any ship in your fleet.

Admiral Piett cannot begin the game as your Admiral and his ability while good isn't so good that it would be so beneficial that you would sacrifice your original commander to activate him. A good subordinate to Vader.

I guess nothing. Yea, pretty lame and sad, but that's my guess. No news for Armada. No new mechanics.

R2-D2 Support Team Rebel "The City's Central Computer told you? R2-D2 you know better than to trust a strange computer." At the start of the your activation if at Distance 1-3 of a space station or enemy ship you may discard one face up damage card then roll a blue dice if you roll a crit discard this card.

Commander: Admiral Piett - Before a friendly ship's Attack Step, it may choose to attack from only its front and rear hull zones this round. If it does, it may add 2 red dice to attack pool while attacking a ship.

Hey guys I actually already know what the next wave is, it’s [REDACTED]

Cassian Andor-U Wing pilot: Rogue, Assault, Snipe 2. He may use snipe against ships as well. Single Brace Defense token.

Admiral: Admiral Ackbar (TLJ) - At the start of the ship phase, discard this card. Restore one shield facing on every ship in the fleet to it's starting level.

Ordinance Upgrade: Assault Ion Torpedoes

Black Crit: Choose and discard one Command Token from the Defender. If the Defender has no Command Tokens, deal one Faceup Damage card to the defender.

Cheaper than APT? Okay.

Id go further - there is a rule in the rule book that was placed for future proofing but thus far has not been used... so let’s use it:

Advanced Cluster Torpedos:

Black Crit: Discard a Die showing a black critical symbol to deal one face up card and deal one damage to each adjacent hull zone.

Powerful, but expensive....

Or, we could take the compromise effort and make things more contingent:

Ion Torpedo Barrage:

Black Crit: Deal one face up Card. If you also discard a Blue Crit symbol, the target and both adjacent hull zones lose a shield.

Edit: I’m not explicitly playing the game... I just like commenting on rules ?

Here’s the problem...

... there are people who actually DO know...

And they’re basically going to be bound to not play... which is a shame, as their opinions would be valued, but just... can’t.

NDAs are like that... ?

Sure, but they could make their personal opinions known by liking posts in this thread and if, in a few days, those posts happen to be proven prophetic, they'd have saved themselves the labor of revisiting the contest thread ... :P

Yeah... I was being too conservative with the bonus. Either of those would be much better.

Ion Ion Ions (modification)

Takes 2 ion upgrade slots to equip

Blue crit: Choose 1 - Exhaust a defense token of your choice on the defending ship, or, choose and discard a command token from the defending ship, or, reduce the defending ship's speed by 1, or, choose and exhaust an upgrade card equipped to the defending ship. You may resolve this effect once for each blue crit you spend.

Sorry, that name is dumb, should be Ionic Ion Ion Ions.

Good concept ! but I think we need a slight reword, just so it’s clear...

Blue Crit: Choose one of the following effects on the defending ship:

Choose and Exhaust a defense token

Choose and Discard a Command token

Reduce it’s speed by 1 (to a minimum of 1?)

Choose and Exhaust an upgrade card.

You May resolve an additional choice above for each blue Crit you discard to a maximum of once each....

(have to slip in actual die discard rules ?)

This way we know it’s one effect baseline and the others can be charged with blue Crits.... so really, you get one and can immediately trade that damage point (assuming no other blue Crits) for a second...

I don't want to agree with this, but I have to....

I don't think we will get anything, but:

Saw Gerrera, U-Wing Ace

If the defender has a Raid token, turn all hits to double hits.

Or - If the defender has a Raid token, roll one extra die of any colour in your armament. (this one is boring)

Thematically basing this off of his Rebels appearance.

Title card
• Executor

When you reveal a command, you may activate 2 squadrons with SWARM as if they were activated by a squadron command.

These squadrons do not count towards the number of squadrons you may activate this round because of a squadron command.

R2D2 Boarding party. Reorder all command dials. Then switch command tokens for other types. Then switch state of defense tokens, so a green gets red for a red getting green.

Edit: oh oh oh, also change speed to anything but 0. And flip down any number of damage cards the flip up randomly that many.

R2D2 edits whatever he wants

Intelligence Array (Comes with the IG-55 Surveillance Flottilla (Gozanti)

The defender cannot spend more than one defence token (per attack) if the attacker is within distance 3 of this ship(?).

LT-319 (Officer; From the same pack)

Choose one enemy unique squadron or officer within distance 5(?) Choose a round and upon their activation (in that round) they may not resolve their ability.

Seems like an interesting contrast to the Braha’tok if it pops up.

Imperial Nerd (LT-319)

A dual-slot support team / offensive retro upgrade would help both Interdictors and Pelta Command, which seems like a good targeted intervention for some underutilized ships to me, so I'm predicting our first defensive take on a 'boarding team':

Rapid Response Team

When you reveal a command, you may discard a (engineering) dial or token and this card to choose and remove any number of raid tokens or to flip any number of damage cards facedown.

Admiral: Admiral Ackbar (TLJ) - At the start of the ship phase, discard this card. Restore one shield facing on every ship in the fleet to it's starting level.

I think it would be more accurate like this:

At the start of the first ship phase destroy this card, and make peace with the fact that the new movies will disappoint you and stop complaining.

Or more seriously, I'd like more Generic Uniques and let them have one defense token.

Blue Squadron: Regular X-wing stats but with one brace token and a black bomber dice.

Ravager (Title for the SSD)

If your attack is unobstructed by a friendly ship, you may barrage any number of enemy ships within range. You may then move as if you spend a Navigate Dial (I.e with increased Yaw)

Or -

You may move first and then attack using Barrage only.

Theme is a more maneuverable SSD with the ability to do splash damage. It’s only ever going to be suitable for 600pts+

I also kinda like the obstruction clause, as I feel like it could be a good way to balance SSD’s in that it is a potential weakness for them.

Barrage

Attack any number of enemy ships from your front hull zone with die equal to your Barrage armament. You cannot move on this activation if you Barrage.

(Barrage replaces the anti-squadron dice (?) On Executor-Class Star Destroyers)

Objective: Something Big is Coming

Second player selects a space 2 X distance 5 from one short side of the play area. No ships or squadrons may enter this (design) space. At the beginning of every turn, second player rolls a black die. If a die face with a single Crit and no other icons shows, something big enters anywhere in the space. On any other facing, continue as usual.
