A swing at SATO

By Doppelganger, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

I was contemplating playing a bit with Sato to have some fun. Here is what I came up with (Thoughts?):

Faction: Rebel Alliance
Points: 400/400

Commander: Commander Sato

Assault Objective: Opening Salvo
Defense Objective: Contested Outpost
Navigation Objective: Intel Sweep

MC75 Ordnance Cruiser (100 points)
- Lando Calrissian ( 4 points) - Avengers hurt, therefore Lando
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- Electronic Countermeasures ( 7 points)
- External Racks ( 3 points)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes ( 5 points)
= 123 total ship cost

[ flagship ] Nebulon-B Support Refit (51 points)
- Commander Sato ( 32 points)
- Salvation ( 7 points)
- Skilled First Officer ( 1 points)
= 91 total ship cost

Hammerhead Scout Corvette (41 points)
- Gunnery Team ( 7 points) - five black dice at long range (possibly)
= 48 total ship cost

Hammerhead Torpedo Corvette (36 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- Wide-Area Barrage ( 2 points) - I really want to try this out and see how well it does
= 42 total ship cost

GR-75 Medium Transports (18 points)
- Hondo Ohnaka ( 2 points) - this thing should command squadrons an should not be able to provide tokens via comms net, therefore HONDO
= 20 total ship cost

1 HWK-290 ( 12 points)
1 VCX-100 Freighter ( 15 points)
1 Tycho Celchu ( 16 points)
3 A-Wing Squadrons ( 33 points)
= 76 total squadron cost (Just to stick a bunch of fighters in his face and have some strategic as an option.)

I’d put WAB on the 75 instead of the Hammerhead. Even 4 black dice is only 2 damage to a hull zone of their choice, which clashes a bit with the burst damage concept of a torpedo corvette. The 75 by comparison gets as much as 5 damage with Opening Salvo (reliably 4 for a turn,) and double arcing is more of a threat. Downgrading the scout to another torpedo corvette might also be smart, as the benefit is currently a little subjective (no lovely ranged crit, but an extra dice and attack for 3 points.) The pair could threaten APTs at range while the cruiser moves in. Aspiration is an absolutely amazing title if you can fit it. Hope this helps!

If you take a Sato Hammerhead, try a torpedo with ATP, OE and DCaps. They are surprisingly deadly for only 48 points. On your first shot you can get 3 rerollable black die with ATPs, It's something people don't usually expect and can really soften the target for you MC75 to come in and finish off (especially when you MC75 has ATPs as well.)

Also I'd rethink Sato on Salvation. Nebs are just so fragile, it's probably worth it just to put him on the 75, especially since Lando will be joining him.
