Bossk, the Pup and points.

By Stoneface, in X-Wing Rules Questions

This came up in a game tonight and I can honestly say its never been an issue since I've been dealing with Bossk.

The YV-666 has been destroyed, the pup deployed and is the last ship on the board. Does the opposing player get the six points for the Nashtah Upgrade or not? The opinions were split on yes vs no, 2-1.

I went through the past threads looking for an answer but came up empty handed. What makes me think that the opponent gets the points is the fact that the Pup is a "zero point" ship and the upgrade is bundled into the cost of the YV-666.

I need a more experienced opinion.

Fortunately, this is in the FAQ:

If the only ship remaining in a match is the
Nashtah Pup Pilot, the player who controls
that ship wins. If this scenario arises during
a tournament match, the Nashtah Pup Pilot
is treated as though it is worth 1 point. For
example, in a standard 100 point dogfight
match, the player who controls the Nashtah
Pup Pilot earns a win and has a margin of
victory of 101 and his opponent scores 99.

Thanks for this! I was trying to locate the card and looking in the upgrades and not in the pilot cards. Doh!

With, Bossk having been destroyed and the pup flying but not the last ship. Say a Nym was still flying around at full health. The question is whether or not the opponent gets full points for destroying Bossk since the pup was alive and well. The ruling was yes.

As I see it, there are a couple ways this could go:
1) The pup is a 6pt upgrade and until it is destroyed, bossk is still flying around and thus not completely destroyed and the opponent would receive half points for Bossk (having reduced the YV-666 below half).

2) The pup counts (again) as part of the YV-666 and if alive gives the same 1pt it does if it is the only ship alive to the surviving winning side, technically reducing Bossks victory points by 1.

3) The pup is a special case and even if it survives with friends the opponent still receives full victory points for the destroyed YV-666.

Where I kinda of like option 1 (6 pts for 2 more hull and shield that can move and shoot would be unheard of). I suspect 3 is how the majority of people play it (and how we have).

Since you like option 1, but expect option 3 to be correct, does that mean any official answer will turn out to be more like option 2? :D

The Nashta Pup is not an upgrade, it's a ship, and unless it is the last ship it has no MOV value. It's also not the same ship card as the YV-666; it copies the pilot skill/ability but does not copy the persona. If it is deployed then the YV-666 has been destroyed along with all its upgrades, title included.

tl;dr: The Nashta Pup is awarded no points, and may God have mercy on its soul.

The Nashta Pup is a ghost. It may interact with the board but off the board the only time it counts is when it scares the opponent into losing what would otherwise be a draw.

I'm a bit surprised you don't remember this one Stoneface. It has been ruled this way since day one. The Pup is its own ship but is worth zero points outside of the situation where it is the last ship standing. The points you put into getting it are "lost" when the YV-666 carrying it is destroyed and if the big ship is never destroyed then the Pup was never even there.

The reason I don't remember it is simple; it never came up before Saturday's game. Oh I've both played the pup and against it but it never was the "Last Man Standing".
