Lightsaber Crafting and the Saber Staff

By Lotr_Nerd, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

I have a player who is currently planning his character for the next time our group plays Star Wars and he is asking if it would be possible for him to make a Lightsaber Staff that can split apart in the middle into two shotos I have an idea of how to do this but I am open to the communities ideas as well.

PS I am thinking of allowing it if he can get two triumphs on the check to build the saber.

Given that it doesn’t change the effectiveness much, and costs for attachments and crystals are doubled anyway (Ie two of them), i would make it easier.

probably make it a 1HP attachment to a saber staff that would add 1 enc and 1 unwieldy. When separated loses linked but no other effect. And as I think linked is better than two weapons anyway (unless I miss something) add mods to reduce enc by 1 and unwieldy by 1 so it becomes just loss of 1 HP. Maybe make separating it an action with mod to reduce to manoeuvre. Maybe give a bonus dice to attacks for the first attack after the change for the surprise.

Just have him craft two shotos and make a 1hp attatchment that allows them to be connected gaining the linked quality.

That does mean making two crafting rolls (so potential complexity if you get different results), that are lower difficulty. The 1 HP attachment also only reduces the number of available HP to the number the Staff Saber has. So effectively you are just making it easier to achieve for free whilst potentially more complex.

That's pretty much what I would say.

If you want two sabers they are going to have to be made separately. However it's always up to the Gm on how you want to handle it. If they are for example directly copies of each other it may be a cause for making 2nd crafting for the same Saber slightly easier or have a boost.

Crafting two sabers=2 rolls.

And i would argue that whatever the worst stat between the sabers is the base stats for the double bladed form.

Well it's much easier to Smith two paired swords at the same time instead of smithing a copy later. So the same could be true for Lightsabers. If that's the case it would be one check. However I'd have the player craft a Blueprint first before they could construct such an inticate style of Saber. Thus they would study how to make both Shotos and Staffs. This would however require multiple checks.
