By Maui., in X-Wing Squad Lists

I just started playing 100/6 games against actual people for basically the first time ever (previously only played against AI and a couple intro games). I wanted to practice with ships I actually own, which is somewhat limited, and I also decided that I should start with the basics... which to me apparently means flying Luke + Wedge in the face of TLTs and harpoon missiles, and preparing for that delicious impending X-wing fix by trying out some weird stuff with the heroes of Yavin.

With all that in mind, I came up with this list to Make X-wings Great Again:

Wedge Antilles (29)
Predator (3)
Flight-Assist Astromech (1)
Integrated Astromech (0)

Luke Skywalker (28)
Expertise (4)
R2-D2 (4)
Vectored Thrusters (2)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Linked Battery (2)
Jan Ors (2)
B-Wing/E2 (1)

Total: 98

...As you can see, nothing terribly fancy. I'm sure I'm not the first person to try out Expertise Luke but the idea is to free up his action so he can either evade or reposition. Predator Wedge is pretty straightforward, plus a linked battery B-wing playing fullback to round out the list. I like the B-wing--no one shoots at it if they can shoot one of the X-wings instead, and a linked battery B-wing ain't exactly toothless.

I managed to beat Kylo + 2 Rhos with this to start out my fledgling career, in large part because Luke was able to brush off a 3-hit harpoon thanks to his handy dandy evade token, but I'm sure there's tons of stuff I haven't thought of. How would you improve this list? What should I try out, especially considering the upcoming X-wing fix?

Its not bad. I like the Luke build. Basically makes it so he never needs to do a focus action.

I would consider doping Flight-Assist Astromech (1) for Copper. Its the same cost and you can the use those remaining 2 pts to add on torpedoes. While boosting is nice, i think allowing Wedge to regain 3 shields is even better.

Imagine late game. Wedge is often a target so he is kind beat up. You can first sacrifice the torpedoes for 1 shield (since they are kinda garbage). Next round Integrated for another. and finally if you REALLY need to keep Wedge alive, sacrifice Predator... But, in a punch you could use Integrated Astro instead of sacrificing should you get a particularly nasty face up card.

I had the sacrilegious thought of putting R2-D2 and VT on Wedge, and putting BB-8 and IA on Luke. It would probably perform more optimally, with the regen and barrel roll now on the more-dangerous, higher-PS pilot, while Luke still has his strong defense and some repositioning ability. And, of course, there's still that unassuming B, quietly doing the Lord's work while everyone focuses their attention on Wedge and Luke.

But I'd have to figure out a way to make my brain comprehend a list in which Luke is flying his X-wing without R2-D2, which frankly seems like a pretty freaking big hill to climb.

Going to chime in here and say that FAA is probably the best Astromech ever for Wedge. Gives him a ton of additional utility while keeping him cheap, and frees up his action to focus every time. Chopper is a swell mech, but you want all of those upgrades he's eating and he takes your action.

Overall this looks really solid, albeit a bit old-fashioned! Ain't nothing wrong with that, though.

TBH, I'd use FAA/Expertise on Wedge AND Luke. Expertise is crazy good on them, FAA is almost stupidly helpful.

As for the B - I would use some of those saved points for Adv. Sensors - its VERY useful as it pretty much guarantees that fellow his focus or Barrel Roll, and the roll pre-move can be golden.
