By ares1618, in Runewars Miniatures Game

The second article of Impact 3 is up! I go into detail on the current Latari list I am testing out for Regionals as well as why I built the list the way I did. Give it a read and let me know what you think of the list!

as always, if you have any questions, comments, or ideas for future articles, please let me know!

I love the way is written and how you show unit by unit and reasoning why it is there. I'm a main Daqan player but I have a half Latari army and find really useful those articles. Please, keep doing this content.

PS: I am the one that is commenting in the web as Javier Vidal ;)

Hey Javier! Glad you enjoy the articles! I should have a battle report up this weekend with the list from this post. I made a few mistakes, but I’m loving the game more and more every time I play! Thanks for all the helpful feedback both here and on the blog itself! Keep it coming!

I like your thoughts. You are thorough and present them well. You're also writing very well for a beginner's audience who might not understand the game well. So that's a huge plus when you're blogging.

As for the list, I think some of it comes down to your local meta. You're right to look to your stacks versus the objectives, and there is probably something to be said for the smaller units with the current objectives. That being said, here are a few thoughts.

Aliana: I agree with you on her being an outstanding hero that brings a lot to the table. I disagree with one of your critics who argued that how you wanted to use Impact and Ambush Predator were at odds. I like your idea with Impact, but so long as you don't get locked into having to trigger often, you'll be just find if you're waiting to get her Ambush Predator to trigger strongly. Depending upon what you're trying to kill, you might be able to use it to push you over the top against a small stack in the early game. Those small victories matter.

Leonx: I've not tried multiple stacks for achieving flanks yet. One basic structure is the 2 x3 with column tactics, and I've recently switched to Bull Pennon when I realized that Leonx almost always get the jump without Raven Tabards. The degree to which you hit hard can work wonders for knocking down a key enemy unit early. You can end up either knocking out a key small, or crippling a key medium to the point it cannot seriously hurt you. That is where the Leonx shine, imo. Clean something up, take light damage in return, and then move on. I also greatly like a 2x2 with moment of Inspiration. By the time you count for the increased chances of triggering the hit or mortal strike from your surges, the 2x with MoI hits for about the same as the 2x3 with Column Tactics. I find Column Tactics is good for as long as you have a 2x3, but as soon as you take damage, you're down to a 2x2 quickly. An 8 rally and either 2 forward or shift can be extremely useful for keeping MoI going. So that's something to consider. And I do find that a cautious open on Leonx works well, because often the opponent will usually have to commit to a move earlier, and which can give you more information on how you want to approach.

3x2 Deepwood. Good choices and thoughts on the upgrade. I've been running a more decked out Deepwood, but points are at a premium for you. Fire Rune and Hunter's Guile synergy well with Maegan in the stack. A scion is right for sure, and both are good.

Scions: I've found that I like one naked, and then the rest with Vicious roots. Depending upon what the opponent fields, it can be difficult to get the first one to trigger reliably, but if you can stagger and hold them up on a key turn, you might trigger them in sequence from range. For blocking, I realized that Pathwalker's amulet on those intending to block is very good. You're basically saving yourself a wound per game, and possibly two if the opponent rolls exactly right and you end up two armor and several green runes to trigger the amulet. In that light, the amulet can end up extending the Scion by an entire turn, which is what you want out of a blocker.

I like your list, and maybe there is something to a couple of stacks of Leonx, especially given how mobile they are. Good luck!
