Pilot Skills query

By player156413, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Question:

I see the difference in the various Drive skills (walker, ground, hover, etc), but what exactly is the difference between Pilot (civilian craft) and Pilot (military craft), other than the fact that military vehicles have guns (or should that be more guns?). Does this mean that Pilot (military) is simply a better version of the other skill?

I cant imagine that there are forms of airborne craft that civilians use but the military doesnt have some version of?

Thoughts / Ideas?

S.K.

Most civilian transports actually lack weaponry. Also, the performance profiles would be significantly different between a Lightning and a Cargo Lighter. My thought has been that a military pilot is also considered proficient with any weapon system(s) which are specifically pilot operated on the craft.

Think of the differences between a 747 commercial airliner and an F/A-18E/F Super Hornet; and then think of the difference in training the pilots go through. A commercial pilot will typically not be pulling 4+ g's in bone crushing combat maneuvers.

...and a fighter pilot won't think too much about subjecting his passengers and/or his cargo to the same.

The Apocrypha had the following vehicles using Pilot (X) skills:

Pilot ( Civilian Craft ): Magus Sky Platform, Ornithopter, Cargo Lander

Pilot ( Military Craft ): Aquila Lander, Arvus Lighter, Guncutter

Hope this helps.

gran_risa.gif Always. Still have my own copy of the Apocrypha, too. I tend to avoid mentioning it most times though. For some reason, people think it's an unofficial fan supplement, even though it was produced by Black Industry back in the day.
