Support of the XXXXXX (Role cards)

By LordBlunt, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

When are these cards going to be available, and what exactly will they allow one to do with their deck construction??? ?

At the moment it looks like they will be available with every clan expansion and will be playable instead of the elemental role. There could be changes to this rule however. There were rumors that it would be possible to make alliances, which would enable all players from a clan to play the support role from an allied clan in addition to the elemental role.

If we will get neutral SHs (which could be happening with Mantis), they probably would only be able to play a support role and not an elemental one.

I wouldn't trust the rumors too much. Using multiple roles directly contradicts the deckbuilding rules written in the Learn to Play book. And while there is precedent in other LCGs for breaking the deckbuilding rules, it has always been written directly on the cards.

I like the idea of support roles as a story-driving, seasonal mechanic. It feels more "narrative" and understandable that the Elemental roles, which are somewhat too abstract.

Keep in mind the LtP is not, and never was intented to be, the "real" rules of the game. It's just a stripped version to get your through you first few games.

The deckbuilding rules are exactly the same in both the LtP and the Reference (and there is no precedent for changing them). Exceptions to the deckbuilding rules are always written on the cards (such as the roles).
