Happy Friday .... X-Wing at least has ships from media...

By Cubanboy, in X-Wing

Happy Friday and many good wishes for a great weekend. Something dawned on me today,

“The main ships people are flying are recognize from X-Wing media right now. “

There terrible and unhealthy for a torny meta which bleeds into other forms of play but The Ghost and Finn are from Rebels and Wookiees are prequel ships.

So my question is... Is having ships on the tables that people recognize from media better for the long term?

Yes

I am not so sure they are so recognised? But then The Rebels show have not been so popular in my country..

Here the movies are the hotness, even the TLJ..

Where are you from if you don’t mind me asking?

After hitting 40 with another work day I am just happy to be home :-)

Good for marketing, but personally don't give a ****

SCURRG is filling the void left by the punisher after red dice creep obliterated deathrain :(

Happy Friday!

Sigh. The debate about what is and is not recognizable is kind of pointless. The only ship that was not recognizable at release was the Imperial Raider as it was invented by FFG, but now has several appearances in other Star Wars media, so even then it has a basis for recognition.

What people actually seem to mean by recognizable is were the in the movies (which the Ghost and the Sheathipede do fall under as they were in the movies). More _Movie_ ships at upper tables would be good, but only if it’s not at the cost of gameplay.

I actually got into the game when the Ghost was released because I like it that much. And the Phantom 2 is actually a the same style of ship that Grievous himself flew on in Revenge of the Sith. So finally the ARC-170 and the Sheathapede (or however its spelt) have given me a Clone Wars filling I didn't think I would have. Way better random toilet bowl Scum ships versus themselves haha.

Maybe...

it is indeed a happy Friday, for after a long hassle (not the eBay sellers fault) my alt art wedge is finally here!

@Cubanboy - Happy Friday.

Interesting question. Having ships on the table that people recognize as Star Wars is very good. People lean over and remain there longer when they see X-Wings and TIE Fighters than when they lean over and see blobs of plastic.

That said, I'm not at all sure that just being in known media is enough to be recognized. A lot of people don't know these newer designs. They recognize the old ships, they recognize T-70s and TIE/fo (even if they don't know it's different from a TIE/ln) - a good number of people who recognize Star Wars don't recognize the Ghost, and the shuttles even less recognized.

Happy Friday!

I hope that with rebels ships being so great right now that a new wave of younger folks are being brought into the game. Having recognizeable ships is really important! We run filthy casual tournaments and the ones that seem to be the most fun are the things like "original trilogy only" stuff, since it will always look like a scene out of a movie (if everyone brings rebel and imperial lists). I haven't even seen rebels (I know, I know) but its pretty cool that across the FFG line you can see the Ghost. Destiny store champs mat I think has it too? Imperial assault has iconic characters that are really popular right now as well. Star Wars night at the FLGS has never looked so good, and that surely adds to the fun.

Happy friday !

We have the Gunboat so I can live with the domination of Ghost/Fenn ! :D

Happy Frydae!

As SabineKey says, every ship is recognizable if you are a big enough fan. I was super excited to see all the bounty hunter ships show up in the game, which I think originated with Decipher's CCG. I suppose for most people those are obscure. For me, the least recognizable ships are the ones from the video games (because I have never been into any form of video gaming), and the most obscure Imperial ace is Marek Steele, which a lot of other people find completely mainstream.

It would be good to see TIEs and Xs feature more, but for me (since I watched Rebels), the TAP is just as cool as Vader's TIE. And the Ghost is the new Falcon.

As I have pointed out elsewhere, the meta is about the aces. All that needs to happen is for the "classic" fighters to get better aces and they will be back in meta-play. (Because at Chez Meanie, X's and B's never went out of style.)

Meh, after regionals season ended, I just went back to triple X-Wing lists because it's more fun and I got say, it feels like people have forgotten how to X-Wing.

I'll plot simple maneuvers just to break formation or set myself up for a pursuit and they just run head first into it and lose key ships. I set up super obvious killzones and people aren't even trying to avoid them. I put forward an unfavorable joust and they just eat it.

I'm not sure what to make of it, but whatever, I get to shoot people up with Luke, Poe and Jess, so I'm fine with this.

Too much faith in their upgrades, they have
