Confirmation on Dragonfire Wand and the end game

By Promm, in Talisman

Alright this is the senario,

Druid is on the Crown of Command, he used the crown a few times, but another player, playing the sage gets past the inner region to crown of command. So the battle for the crown insues. The druid has the sage by strength so any fight with str, the druid wins. The Sage has the Dragonfire wand from the dungeon lord. He comes on the crown, and dragonfires the druid, which loses a life. The druid in turn attacks the Sage. Can the Sage still use the dragonfire wand to deal another life to the druid, and if it does, can battle still be played out so the druid takes a life from the Sage while the druid is attacking for his turn?

If the dragonfire wand is used in both attacking and being attacked, it should at least not stop battle when using it against an attacker. Cause if you think about it, a caster on the crown with that dragonfire wand cant be killed if he has enough craft, even if the opposer outweighs the guy with dragonfire wand by everything else.

Another question/senario you have a shield, can the shield be used to stop the dragonfire life by rolling a die.

confirmation/explanation would be greatly appreciated. This was a heated debate with nerd-rage and an extremely bad taste in his mouth since it lost him the match, when he was far superier then the other.

WoD is usable before every battle, so Sage will match the Druid for life losses (Sage loses battle but Druid loses from WoD). However, unless the WoD is in Bag of Carrying/Holding or Concealed Pouch, Druid should take it as his reward after winning the first battle. Then Sage would be losing 2 Lives in each battle.
