Community Interest

By L5RBr, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

This forum and cardgamedb's also are a little dead..

The community is getting "cold", I think many players are a little disappointed with the gap between releases, but essentially cause for most clans even phx pack doesnt bringed many useful cards. So basically you maintain your current deckbuilding, maybe adapting your conflict for tadaka.

I think at least FFG could bring us weekly spoilers like they've done before core set release, if at least we knew that every thursday we will see some new spoilers this could help controling the anxiety of too many time until elemental cycle being avaliable, and keep people interested.

Come to Discord , that's where all the action is at.

Yeah all the small talk for the game happens on Discord. This is the first LCG that I've played that has universally embrace that platform. There aren't many lively message boards for this game right now but there is a reasonable amount of traffic here when ever something newsworthy happens. Discord has sort of taken over all the OP, Kotei and Discord League day to day discussions. Also it appears to be where the prominent bloggers and podcasters interface with their audience. CGDB has been slowly dying out for a while unfortunately. Make me sad because it was nice to have a board specifically designed to talk about card strategy. The thing that is really killing CGDB in my opinion is that almost no one actually uses that deck builder. They aren't helping matters when bugs go unfixed in the utility for way too long. I'm confused about whether CGDB is affiliated with FFG. I had thought that was the case, but FFG doesn't seem to promote the site at all.

I think it's perfectly normal for interest in any card game that isn't MTG or Hearthstone to wax and wane depending on the release of new product.

FFG could do a better job of informing its consumers of what to expect next. This, I feel, is their biggest hurdle. The more mainstream games can survive the lulls between new product release. Every other game should be promoting their product as often as they can.

Relying on our rabid fandom is not enough.

I see, Im getting old =(.

I've joined discord but I don't enjoy much the real time chats, I still prefer the forums were you can read and think and talk about a single topic hours after the news.

But maybe this model is getting obsolete.

I'm with you on that.

But I'm afraid you're right. People are just moving on to new mediums :/

At least all of the important stuff ends up here :)

I prefer this forum than the real time chats as well. I also joined discord but I'm not nearly as active there. It can really drain the battery on my phone checking in on discord. Besides, checking the forums while I "work" is more convenient.

I am still surprised that the Koteis are not even remotely mentioned on these forums. I do keep a close watch on them on the Discord, the live results and discussions, but you wouldn't even know they exist if you only read the forums.

Nah. If you wait long enough, obsolescence comes back into fashion.

Or you die, in which case it doesn't matter.

Ha! Death is overrated. As is mattering.

Isn't death the obsolescence of life?

Real time chat client? So like mIRC and #L5R from two decades ago?

Huh. Everything old is indeed new again.

;)

I spent way too much time in mIRC. Social media is more about fashion than functionality. Discord is fashionable now. I think the Discord League has much to do with why the platform was so widely adopted for this game. At launch and even prior to launch people were using Discord to organize TTS games. There were other people trying to organize online leagues, but none of them took off like the Discord League.

Wow, mIRC. That brings me back to elementary school. :P
