3 Rookies and Norra

By BCooper85, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Played my first game in about 6 weeks so brought my 'Scruff Squadron' out (R3-A2/Gunner Braylen, 3 x Rookies).

I love the list and have done pretty well with it in the past but it has one major problem, it's PS.

With that in mind I'm thinking of a change....

3 Rookies with IA and FAA

Norra with Rey, title, VI and BB-8

With Braylen I fly the four ships in a tight pinwheel but with Norra I think flying her separate from the 3 X's is a better plan so I'm presenting two targets to my opponent?

Thoughts and suggestions are welcome :D

I would definitely split Norra off from the Rookies. if you're going to spend points to give her barrel roll and PS9, then I wouldn't nail her to a bunch of PS2 mooks who don't get to reposition much once the shooting actually starts.

At the same time, even PS9 only provides so much help with the Veteran Instincts crowd lurking in the wings.

As an alternate thought; if breaking Norra off, you could trade Veteran Instincts and BB-8 for Lone Wolf and Flight Assist Astromech. I'm not sure if it'd work well or not, but it'd be a nice chunk of both offensive and defensive boost since Norra rarely gets to spend her tokens modifying existing dice (instead of creating new results)

Thanks Magnus, can always rely on you for solid suggestions!

Now to wait for Saw's Renegades........*expects disappointment*

I like. I've been flying a (somewhat) similar list myslef - 3 x Rookies with FAA, Integrated and Deadeye Nera.

What I've found is hanging back with the Ace is better than splitting them off - split them off and you risk your opponent trying to isolate them and focus them down. Hang back behind the rest of the formation and they can pick off targets off opportunity. So you start off in formation, but send the Rookies out ahead to engage/block. It's a slight distinction, but baiting opponents into the Rookies (and creating a mass bump-furball) is usually better than giving them a choice of targets.

Interesting! Thanks Gecko :D

VI/Rey/Flight Assist Norra is my favorite Norra ever. I find that PS9 really helps her out in practice more than it really should. But with PS2 for the rest of the squad... PS7 wouldn't be a terrible idea.

Norra Wexley (29)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Rey (2)
Flight-Assist Astromech (1)
Alliance Overhaul (0)

Rookie Pilot (21)
Flight-Assist Astromech (1)
Integrated Astromech (0)

Rookie Pilot (21)
Flight-Assist Astromech (1)
Integrated Astromech (0)

Rookie Pilot (21)
Flight-Assist Astromech (1)
Integrated Astromech (0)

Total: 99

could be a heck of a lot of fun. I'd fly it for sure. I think the trick would be to actually fly together for the joust then start cycling them with 3 hard boost/rolls to change up targeting priority.

I personally would not bother with Norra outside of her Regen capabilities

Especially not when you could just use FFA Wedge or r2d2 Luke for the full Xwing experience (predator for mods)

Does FAA check both arcs, front and rear?

Yes i believe any arc

You believe correctly. The auxiliary arc counts as 'in arc' for anything which isn't more specific than 'firing arc' (like Tail Gunner or Assaj Ventress).

If you are looking for a stress list, I've had a lot of fun with this one:

don't underestimate FFA Astro Norra. For 32 points she's still very dangerous and can fit into the same list as FFA/Expertise Wedge, leaves you with another 32 points for fun!

It depends on playstyle. I don't do well with Regen... I like to kill things faster than they can kill me.

Problem is that's not always (and in fact sometimes rarely) possible

But i guess it is indeed a play style thing. I personally do not enjoy getting reamed when my glass cannon meets perfect evades and then proceeds to get ****** by having no defenses of its own

Though for the 33 she's worth, I'd still take predator faa wedge

why not both? ;)

I do very well with both in the same list to the point that I haven't had this much fun in X-wing since pre-jump and I'm still holding my own making every game I have very close, or winning. but it's totally playstyle. FFA Norra is good to keep up to Wedge for the engagement, keep arcs when disengaging, and then re-engaging quickly.

Ah, thank you. Then just be mindful about FAA on the ARC. May not trigger enough to use it.

I don't know why people always use this argument.... isn't it good that you don't need to use it. it's designed to get things into arc, or to bug out. Sure an ARC won't bug out as quickly, but at least you still get to shoot. helps keeps guns on target.

I have 0 problems using it on my ARC. I've been flying Norra VI/Rey/FFA/Title in pretty much every list since January and love it to pieces. It proc's when it needs to, and even if it only goes off 3 times a game (which is still 30% of most games) it's enough. especially at higher PS.

Outstanding then. I was just saying be careful. ?
