Magic spell with lightning

By RagingJim, in Genesys

Maybe I'm just tired, but I'm struggling with a concept here. If I cast an attack spell that has the additional effect of lightning, and choose to add the autofire quality to it, my spell difficulty is 3 purples.

Do I need just 2 advantages to activate all the elements of lightning (i.e stun AND one extra hit of autofire), or do I need 2 adv for lightning, (which gives the spell the stun quality), and 2 adv per extra hit of autofire?

Or something else entirely?

My sleepy brain thanks you in advance.

They are separate qualities, so they would be activated separately.

Ok so the Lightening effect gives both the Stun quality and the Autofire quality. The difficulty of firing that at Short Range is Average (<D><D>).

All damage is stun damage and you will need 2 Advantages to activate the autofire.

If you wish to increase range bands, add an additional <D> per range band in or out.

The active Stun quality is different from stun damage though, right?

This isn’t quite right. The upgrade that only does stun damage is the non-lethal upgrade available only to Primal casters. This one does additional stun damage (on top of the regular damage done) if you pay the advantage cost.

The CRB states that if you want to use auto-fire, you still have to increase the difficulty of the roll by one, so the difficulty of the roll (at short range) with auto-fire is indeed Difficulty.png Difficulty.png Difficulty.png . And then activating stun and auto-fire costs Advantage.png Advantage.png each. You can use the spell without actually using auto-fire (if, for instance, you only want to use the step effect). If you do so, you do not need to upgrade the difficulty to account for auto-fire, and you will not be able to activate the auto-fire effect.

So, yes, if you want to use auto-fire and activate the stun effect of this ability, and are firing at short range, your difficulty will be Difficulty.png Difficulty.png Difficulty.png and you will need Advantage.png Advantage.png Advantage.png Advantage.png to activate them both, with an additional Advantage.png Advantage.png for each additional application of the auto-fire effect.

Yes, correct. My bad. Just because the spell has the Autofire Quality just means you have the ability to use it, you still have to declare an activation of it.

Very, very frightening! :o

How did you get those symbols to work?

Looks like the images are hosted on http://aethermere.com/ and hotlinked inline with the text. Just a matter copy-pasting the image, but probably good to make sure that you have permission from the owner of the domain/server to do so.

Permission granted. It’s my domain/server. So I will probably be migrating the logos symbols to genesysrealms.com sooner or later, since that’s where all my Genesys projects will be in the near future.
