Teaching old dogs new tricks

Arc-170 lists had in the past been paired up with Biggs to enhance Nora’s tank and Shara or any of the other pilots abilities. I am here to demonstrate a list I ran at the CAC in Moline Illinois.

Looking for constructive and reliable info here as this is my first custom list from the norm.

It went 4-2 with only losses coming by final shots on Fenn for a kill in my first round and on the last game not being able to touch Kylo with a full health Norra.

Looks interesting.

  • Norra
    • Push The Limit lets you keep using Norra's ability defensively (which is often where it's strongest), which paired with R2-D2 makes her very tough.
    • Ezra gives you a focus-to-critical meaning that you've still got (some) dice modifiers on your forward guns when doing so.
    • You do, however, trade off for the extra durability of C-3PO. You've got to fit in Ezra somewhere to 'unlock' Maul, though.
    • He's probably overkill when firing the tail guns as Alliance Overhaul does the same thing unless you roll double-focus.
  • Braylen
    • Maul is an interesting thought for Braylen's ability. Theoretically, you can reroll all 3 attack dice, soak 1 stress with Maul for hitting, 1 with a green manoeuvre and 1 with Braylen's ability. The odds of needing 3 rerolls have to be fairly limited, so normally either Braylen or Maul's ability should be enough to keep you stress-free.
    • Action-free and token-free rerolls are always good - especially with Fenn Rau doing nasty things to your squad.
    • If you don't need to target lock, M9-G8 becomes a good use of the otherwise empty astromech slot.
  • Fenn Rau
    • Hmm.
    • A PS11 barrel roll is nice - good for arc dodging.
    • Hotshot Copilot plus Fenn's ability is enough to pin down two ships to unmodified attack dice. It's not, however, as scary as when it's paired with a sensor jammer (a common theme of Ghost/Fenn Rau lists)
    • R2 Astromech is good for clearing off stress, although Flight Assist Astromech might also be a perfectly valid option.

Main thoughts:

  • Ezra vs C-3PO is essentially an offense vs defence question, whilst Ezra vs Tail Gunner is a question as to whether you find yourself shooting more from the front or rear of the ARC-170.
  • I'd suggest that with M9-G8 giving you a reroll (since you probably locked Norra), you're essentially sinking Push The Limit's free token, Norra's own ability, Ezra Bridger and M9-G8 all into that one primary weapon attack - yes, the result is devastating, but you've spent the equivalent of two heavyweight cannon upgrades to achieve it.
  • If you still want Maul, the other option is Ezra instead of Fenn Rau. You lose the high-PS of the co-ordinate option, but Ezra works well as a stress-thrower instead; Baze Malbus and R3-A2 make for a cheap way to stress out two enemies (or Gunner to have the option to double-stress one of them).

I’ve gotten 4 dice double crit hits with Nora and using Fenn to screw up defenses has been nasty. The problem I’ve run into more than anything? I’d almost rather use Rex and give me some load outs for harder hits and upgrade to Shara for even more

Not much has changed there, other than Lowh generally being superior to every non-Norra arc

Anyway, you don't need Ezra. You got PTL, rau coordinate, and also the arc title for rear shots. C3po is your guy, makes Norra ridiculously difficult to kill which is FAD more powerful than just being a gun

You are generally better off enhancing this with Lowhrick, which is also generally just a better ship than the ARC because ffg sucks and gave the ARC no inherent defense

But if you gotta m9g8, you'll want Weapons Engineer Thane.

His ability will either give him full mods or let him **** with the enemy by bouncing m9g8 locks around

WE lets you double up on m9g8 as both an offensive and defensive tool

I was thinking about maybe dropping in stressra with low but I’m sold on ARC’s being the greatest thing ever. It’s the ship I’m most comfortable with and although I fly the Wookiee gun ship really well.... who doesn’t lol. I’m interested in the new updates coming to the game and if the T-65 upgrades and pilots coming with Saul and Nora if it will be any good. You always sit down and look at your cards and think “wow this is such a good idea” and then try it out and it gets pooped on hard by a perfect counter. ARC-170 is a great ship and I won’t leave it but I am worried it’s getting left behind as too old a ship

They weren't ever cutting edge of meta though. Even Norra, as excellent as she is, simply doesn't stack up to Miranda (then again, what does?).

Imo the Auzzie/Sheathe have already left all the other arcs behind. M9g8 thane is only any good because you can't fit rau, Norra, sheathe + third ship so might as well get thane's 3 die primary.

Just keep that in mind while flying them. It sucks, but FFG tried way too hard to make sure the ship was balanced and ended up making 3 pilots with super situational abilities

I believe, however, that Norra will always AT LEAST be "good", by virtue that if you make anything too much better you'll break the game (ie Miranda)

That exact Braylen has occured to me before! Though sadly, I agree that Ezra isn't super worth it on Norra, so I'd probably end up with WE/M9 Thane, because boy, that guy is a hoot.

I would also choose FAA over R2 on Fenn - the adaptability is better than the turns in my mind anyday.

Replaced Ezra with Recon Spec and took Finn out for stressra. Netted me several wins as of late. But I think it’s gonna show it’s flaws soon enough

I also like The C-3PO R2 combo much better on Norra than Ezra.

If you absolutely want Maul, get Ezra on the Shady Pete Shuttle.

But personally i would keep Fenn, and throw the whole Etra Combo overboard...
