Stay on target

By galahadba, in X-Wing Rules Questions

We had a problem in a local game where a player wanted to use stay on target while stressed so that he would do a 2 straight instead (as if he had revealed an ilegal move). We rulled that he could not do it, based on good sense, as he alread revealed his dial, he cannnot execute a red maneuver stressed as per rules and he would be deliberately chosing an ilegal move. But the doubty remains. What would be the correct rulling on this?

1 - He does no move, as he changed to a red maneuver and he is stressed, the FAQ says that a ship could not execute a red maneuver while stressed.

2 - He do a 2 straight move, as if he had revealed an illegal move.

3 - He cannot use the card, as he would be deliberately chosing an illegal move.

#2 is the correct ruling.

Attempting to execute a red maneuver while stressed (Wether dialed that way or ‘made red’ by Stay on Target) makes you perform a white 2-straight.

Where do you got it from? The "2 straight" rule is a "new" thing to adress cases that gives you stress before you reveal your dial, making a maneuver that was legal, illegal. In old times the oponent would chose your maneuver, meaning that illegal moves is something that sould not happen. For the 2 straight The FAQ says "If a stressed ship reveals a red maneuver" that is not the case, the maneuver was revealed, it was legal, he is now changing it to another one that would be red. I does not seens to me that he can do it.

When you change manoeuvres, the new manoeuvre is treated as revealed. The precedent being the interactions between Hera and Navigator and Imp Boba and Navigator.

Thanks :)

Sorry to insist on this, but i still have some doubts. Becouse i was looking at the iterations you said, and Imp Boba don't have red banks, and navigator explicit says that you cannot change your maneuver to a red one if you are stressed, so you cannot do the same thing with this combination. And hera crew (i think is the one you were talking) says you can execute red maneuvers while stressed, so it would solve the problem with stay on target making the manuver legal. in any of theses cases you would not be changing a legal maneuver to an inllegal one and replacing it with a 2 straight.

No. Hera pilot.

The point is that those demonstrate that changing the manoeuvre for a new one explicitly provides a new reveal trigger, or heragator wouldn't work. So by extension, changing your move with SoT provides a new reveal trigger, and the procedure for revealing a red whilst stressed must trigger if you use it whilst stressed.

Per the FAQ....

Revealing Red Maneuvers

When a player reveals a red maneuver for a stressed ship, the only card effects he may resolve are those that change the maneuver to a different one (Adrenaline Rush, Navigator, etc.). After resolving these effects, if the ship would still be executing a red maneuver, the owner moves the ship as if it were assigned a white [? 2] maneuver instead. The speed, bearing, and difficulty of this maneuver cannot be changed.

So the rules establish that even after resolving card effects, if you still do a red move while stressed... you do a white 2 straight.
