Lights for your work area?

By Frimmel, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

I need to improve the lighting in my work area if I'm going to join the ranks of re-painters. Well if I'm going to paint anything I won't be afraid to show in public. I'm curious what sorts of bulbs and fixtures and levels folks use. "Well lit" isn't all that precise particularly given all the colors of white light available from modern LEDs and CFLs and such.

What illumination level starts causing troubles from the heat they put out?

I use 3 eiither 40 or 60w bulbs, can't remember which. As long as you're not leaving the minis in there for hours it'll be fine.

3 LED bulbs that give 100W of incandesent light. (1600 Lumens each.)

I specifically looked for the whitest bulbs that were offered. Anything yellow makes your ship's paint look very different in natural light.

Here's something to help:

Exactly that...2 as white as you can get led lights. They sometimes are labeled daylight.

I use clamp style lights that are like 5 bucks each at a hardware store

That's for photography by the by. For painting I use a halogen light.
