What is the likelihood of an expansion releasing separately that only contains command cards and unit specific abilities?
More specifically I’m thinking Force powers for Vader as he is incredibly limited for someone so slow.

Any other Force user released will likely have a neutral force card at least, if not be matching dark side... More upgrades are inevitable
More neutral command cards, that’s trickier- not impossible - but game design wise, the Commander specific cards build on the neutrals as a core, so they are balanced on that core - a variant core would have to be equally balanced yet different to be basically worth the design time.
Based on the past, very unlikely. FFG may release cards like that with another model, but they have never done a card-only pack for a miniatures game.
The closest they've come was the campaign box for Armada, which also included cardboard for new squadrons, and a bunch of campaign rules.
I get it I suppose, I just feel like Vader needs some better ways to engage at range at least in my experience he gets kited around a bit unless you can take advantage of terrain.

If troops are running from Vader they aren't interacting with objectives. If you're herding them with Vader, you should be able to swing the gate closed in front of them with other units.
I am definitely looking forward to the elite competitive scene to show us what lists and units are viable in the right hands (read: not mine). I think Vader is in a good place for all of his abilities and strengths even at a high cost.
I believe the game will go up in playability with the Veers Leia release. And even more with Solo/whatever 3rd imp commander.
I don’t think you are going to see more command cards very quickly… I think it’s much more likely that you are going to see some commander models released some other time in the future, that might have a different command cards.
I’m very much looking forward to Farm Garb Luke, with his new command card Pity Party.

He also comes with a 2 pip command "Pick Up Some Power Converters" that allows you to give 2 troopers commands, and when you give Farmboy Luke his command, you may immediately move him twice with the 3-speed template towards the Tosche Station.
1 pip is "Bullseye Womp Rats" give an order to a vehicle, along with an aim token. That vehicle gains an extra compulsory move when it activates.

+1 here. Vader's value doesn't just come from his ability to fight. It also comes from fear. Fear of this battle station. And by battle station I mean, of course, Vader.
i suspect new neutral commands to be kinda difficult since the military mentality between rebels and imps are so drastic it'd be hard to have something beyond simply "Assign X units an order" with no additional rules without having it be sorta weird for one army to have access to it
I imagine it'll happen eventually though. Probably after they run out of obvious commanders between civil war and new trilogy (lets be honest, theres NO way this is going to be strictly civil war era)
Basing my thoughts from X-Wing, I think that new neutral command cards are possible, but not as a stand-alone buy. X-Wing has two core sets and they contain different upgrade cards. So, going off that, I don't see it unreasonable that Legion could possibly get a new core set with different command cards... say.. not from the Galactic civil war era.. possibly Force Awakens and forward.
But I agree that the majority of any new command cards will be with new commander expansions.
