Are the steel floor + magnet base options good enough for travel? Wondering what my solution should be for flying to NOVA. Right now I just use the Legion box, and things jumble around just on a 20 minute drive to the game store.
The models aren't too heavy for the troopers, so yeah it works.
Dunno for vehicles, haven't tried yet.

So, i tried a quick experiment - one magnet held things in place until I gave the box a “sudden breaking” or “turbulence” level shake and the figures would move, two magnets mean you have to actively pry them off.

In my own test, a few seconds of shaking dislodged one of my Storm Troopers (out of 25 trooper models), who are magnetized with magnet tape instead of rare earth magnets. The AT-ST, with 2 quarter-inch magnets, seems unmoved. So I wouldn't rely on magnet tape for a plane ride, but it held up fine under the few sharp turns on the way to the store yesterday.
Hmm. And is the better approach a steel base with magnets on the figures (more expensive) or a magnetic floor with washers on the figures?
The easiest and most cost effective system I’ve personally used are the cheap magnetic sheets at craft stores as a base and small rare earth magnets on the bases.
