Ion Drift?

By Opsmason, in X-Wing Rules Questions

The other night I hit my son’s b-wing with ion cannons three turns in a row ... enough that he drifted out of bounds. Was that legal? I ask because I know that you can’t push a ship out of bounds with tractor beam. Ion drift feels similar.

Perfectly legal, cause technically they’re the ones moving off the field, you’re just giving them a helpful nudge in that directon

Perfectly legal, just hard to do in a lot of instances.

That's just plain good parenting right there.

Legal, and probably one of the best uses of the ion cannon. I've only been able to do it once to my opponent.

Thanks, all. It certainly feels like a jerk move, I’ll say that. But my son was less bothered about it than me.

Only did it once myself but to an almost full health Decimator. Felt bad for awhile.

Oh, that's cool. I've been hoping to take out a large base like that, but haven't had the chance yet. My "ion kill" was to a half health Vader that tried desperately to get out of range, but just couldn't quite do it.

Do you have an issue when you do it once and then the target flies off the board? If that's ok for you then why should doing it multiple times in a row be any problem?

What would be the alternative if a ship would fly away because of ionization? Give it something that allows it to ignore the ionization?

For me at least, it was only the one opportunity. Oicunn rammed a ship, killing it but was pointed at the board edge. Two ion torps followed the next round by two ICT attacks was enough to seal his fate.

Local X-Wing history has it that a single shot from an Ion Cannon Turret killed an A-Wing. It moved onto a rock, rolled a damage, and then moving off the rock the following turn it rolled a crit for Direct Hit.

Most impressive.

These are your first few steps towards the scum side. Embrace de bile feeling coming up your throat! Now take the next step in your journey and combine ion cannon with tractor beams. You can't tractor beam him off the board, but you can speed his way towards oblivion!
