Tyrants of Lothal

Well! Content!

Unfortunately this is a big "meh" since I don't follow Rebels, but hopefully this will draw in some new players.

Style tokens seem extremely unnecessary.

Might skip this expansion entirely except for Thrawn and the Death Troopers.

I agree the style tokens are unnecessary. They could just use the tokens that already exist. I don't like that character anyway, so no chance I'll play her. I do like the retired Clone Trooper, so far anyway. I'm hoping the campaign is worth while, so I'll probably get it. I can foresee, however, I'll be having to use the Ghost crew tokens, minus Hera, because I refuse to buy Sabine and Zeb, or Kanan and Ezra.

I believe it to be a situation where FFG are just preemptively stopping any issues from arising where character X gets an absurd bonus because of an unforeseen interaction. I had the same initial reaction.

I'm just happy to have some news coming out, and new things to buy on the way.

I'm not going to worry about the long-term health of the game unless the next release is 4-LOM and Zuckuss, a rebel trooper on a tauntaun, and Scout Troopers.

This is definitely my favorite small expansion and probably, just behind Jabba’s realm for overall.

I just came back from a three-day miniatures gaming convention where I offered attendees to get to know and learn to play Imperial Assault, which was a lot of fun, and now I see this. What a treat! :)

The reason Tress has style tokens seems to be to avoid abusive combos with say giving her power tokens (which already exist)

it’s annoying, but a common feature of Descent and a tried and “trusted” method of giving a unique play style to a new character...

I’m with you 100% except that I honestly do want kanan. Both because he’s one of the more “normal” of the rebels cast, and because his ability looks to be good fun for the rebels. I can do a full on force user list with him!

Anybody else notice these weird cards included with the spoilers? They're pictured in all 4 figure packs and they have a weird card back we haven't seen before, similar to the unique card backs for the story missions in each large expansion. The name on the Rebel cards is obscured while the back is partially visible, and on Thrawn's and Hondo's spoilers the top of the card clearly says Epilogue: __________, but the back of the card is completely obscured for some reason. Any ideas?

They are probably for making the new side missions fresh with new rewards and story.

Anyway, I did the math and if Tress Hacnua in skirmish rolls the most surges she can, uses her command card, uses a surge from focus, a surge from hide, a surge token, blitz, and hera's surge, she can do up to cleave 12. I'm now scared to see her in tournament.

Rolled surges to equal X likely will not include modifiers like surge tokens/Blitz/etc.

possible to get up to 9 though if you play wild attack

Holy moly that is crazy. She might make me come to the light side of the force.

She can only use ROLLED surges so I’d redo that math a bit.

You're right. It doesn't say "equal to number of surge results. "

I’d actually be really excited for those figures, much more so than Rebels...

I've heard a few folks suggest, convincingly, that these Epilogue cards are designed to integrate with the Tyrants of Lothal minicampaign as additional missions. Similar to the ISB Infiltrators' side mission, which can be added to the Bespin Gambit campaign, these Epilogues seem to suggest that the 4-mission Lothal campaign can be expanded with additional missions from the ally and villain packs. I actually really like this approach to mini-campaigns -- you have the option to play through the condensed story, or flesh them out with more missions that allow you to see some of the allies and villains more.

I wouldn't be surprised if the expansion boxset didn't actually include cardboard chits for all four new Spectre Squadron members... that would be a lot of ally appearances to cram into a 4-mission campaign. Perhaps only two of the allies show up as chits for the expansion's 4 basic missions, but the ally packs add new missions that give you a chance to see the full roster of Spectre squad (while expanding the length of the campaign, to save you from having too much "character overload").

Unrelated to that, I'm also praying that Sabine is enough of an excuse to include a Boba Fett fix card...

a cardboard chit for Sabine can be seen in the Tyrants preview article, so I expect all four rebels will have a presence in the campaign somehow.

migt be why it’s 6 missions instead of the usual 4 for a mini campaign...

One funny thing that I happened to remember was the LucasArts folks told them you can’t have text saying there was an earthquake - because there is no earth. :)

I think that's a bit silly. I haven't done the etymology research, but surely that word meant ground/soil long before it was ever used to refer to the planet. And they're ok with suns and moons, aren't they?

Hondo is the Minsc of Star Wars! “go for the eyes boo! Go for the eyes!”

Ha. Somehow I never connected the two. Now it seams so obvious that I don't know how I ever missed it. Awesome voice actor, and from now on Hondo will always be a little bit Minsc.

Quick Question about ZEB: does his once-per-activation count as attack, although it isnt an action? so he wouldnt be able to attack twice in one activation?

It counts as an attack, but it is not an action containing an attack. It doesn't count towards the one-action-containing-attacks-per-activation limit of non-heroes (everyone in skirmish).

There is no limit in the number of attacks, only on the number of actions containing attacks during the figure's activation.

pretty heavy hitter then with 15hp and only 8 threat for the imperial in campaign mode

You might not know, but they’ve already done this with the Bespin Gambit and ISB Infiltrators and they didn’t have these Epilogue cards, but maybe this is sort of an update to that mechanic.

Yes, this is what I was trying to say — just not very clearly! I think it's an update to the mechanic used for the ISB Infiltrators, with the story information packaged on these Epilogue cards to help better integrate these additional side misions with the campaign narrative.

Tyrants of Lothal is not listed anywhere. I assume it will be coming out sometime in the summer?

Well, I’m EXCITED!

I love the Rebels series and I’m very happy that IA is filling out the roster of the team and giving me a mini expansion with more missions to accomplish!

My son will be happy too as he loves watching Rebels with me. He’s just at the age where he’s getting interested in gaming and this might be the set that gets him into the game.

Cant wait for this release.

So is Hondo the Jack Sparrow of Stat Wars?

I want to say "no" but this is actually really hard to argue against.
