Inhabited Death Worlds?

By Kaihlik, in Dark Heresy

This is actually for a Rogue Trader game but does anyone know of an Inhabited death world in the Calixis sector that it would be possible to recruit from. The only inhabited ones I know of are the two in Creatures Anathema and they are both populated by convicts serving life sentences so aren't really appropriate for the character.

Here is what I remember of the players background.

The character is one who served in the navy as an armsman rising to lead his section on a battlecruiser. The performance of his section had them assigned to important dutues. When the ship was assigned to a Rogue Trader guiding the Imperial effort to cleanse the region of orks and recover some suspected tech in the orks hands his section was assigned to guard the Rogue Traders party as she led the Imperial team to the suspected technology. After being attacked by orks the character impressed the Rogue Trader with his inspired defence of the group and she requested he be transfered to her permenantly.

Death world Karrik in Markayn Marches is inhabited. It's a chill place, frozen down to the ground, with warmer temperatures at equator, harsh nature, terrible atmospheric electric storms and a medium level of ork infestation. No IG regiments are recruited from Karrik, and it desperately needs food supplies. Still it has many human settlements. There are also a lot of ogryns on Karrik, approx. 20% of the human population are ogryns.

another thought is to simply make one up, there are more planets in the Calixis sector than are referenced an any of the books. just come up with an idea for hostile weather, floura, fauna, and a visceral or bleak name and there you go.

Or just numeric, Q-426, a deathworld that has been found by adeptus mechanicus exploraters but not formally named.

Consider that on that star map on the inner cover shows all those little bits of arc lightning running between systems, those are the best known and most stable warp currents. each of those arcs shows numerous little arcs that seem to trail off into nowhere? each of those are a warp route, perhaps inconsequential, forbidden, or just to some failed colonization effort that was consumed by a deathworlds natural unpleasantries.

I was hoping there was a suitable deathworld already out there so that I didn't need to make one up. This is for another player and its a rather low priority for me atm so I was hoping for an easy solution that would allow him to get an idea about his character without giving me a whole load of work to do.

Karrik might work, i'll let him know about it although I'm guessing there is no more info on it beyond the description on the website here.

You can always have your player come up with the missing background information for the made-up planet...

I am looking for an official one because the I think the player would benifit from having an existing planet to draw upon. He is not the most vocal of players but tends to participate more when he is more certain of his character. Not only is it less likely that I will get a background from the player at all if I make him do it but it will probably result in him participating less in the game.

I am inclined to allow players to declare Dusk to be a death world. Nothing I have heard about it makes it sound any more pleasant than Catchan. There is a fair bit more information you can find about Dusk including a background package (one that would take some tweaking to use mechanically) that would give him some more fluff about his character. The background package is in IH but I am sure tidbits are spread all over the place.

Karrik is one as mentioned by Spelleth as well as a couple that have been mentioned as being populated but have little more than note:

Mortressa - Adrantis, Home of renowned 'Scythewind' regiments

Haddrack - Drusus Marches Mechanicus explorator base/Sollex Admech sect.

And then there are ones that are named in the map but have not been described such as:

Zel Secundus

Woe

Bloodfall System

Dusk is a Death World... It's just generally not described as such in the material for some reason. After all, there are very few things; flora or fauna, that are not hazardous on that world. It's like a warp tainted version of Catachan in a lot of ways.

Woe has a description in CA. It's on page 47. But it doesn't help the OP much. It's. Not. Habitable. It will kill you.

A lot of worlds can be classed as more then one thing. Sepherus Secondus is a Mining World though I think you could just as well consider it a Feudal World. It's just that the mining aspect is a lot more important to the Administratum. Perhaps, it's more important to them to class Dusk as a Feral World as opposed to a Death World?

Dusk is referred to as a Feral World because at that time BI/FFG had only 8 character origins and Feral World was one of them and Death World was not. Deat World origin came out with Rogue Trader.
