He's got a bad case of the VTs

By Darth Sanguis, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

One of the guys in our CC is running a Deci swarm with BTAvenger. It's been super strong in that format because it doesn't care about first player (because those rogues will all go after your ships have moved); it's basically running at full strength out of the gate (because the Decis are the equivalent of a large ship without any of the upgrading) it eats small-medium squad balls; it eats small ships flotillas and Liberties; it's great at objective hunting (Show of Force).

It's been made worse by no one on our side running a very heavy squad presence.

He's had mixed success running it in competitive games (needs some tweaks and different squad elements it seems) but it's a strong concept.

The only real problem I've run into with my Decimator build's is Ball's of YT1300's backed up Jan and Bigg's floating alongside of a GR75 w/Toryn. Even then though the slightly faster Imp Sq's generally let you dictate the engagement.

Watch out for

Biggs/Jan/Ten Numb/Dagger Sq/Corran/3x YT1300

I've also run a variation of this with YV's instead of VT's. You need Squall due to their speed but because of the significantly lower cost you can easily fit Dengar into the puzzle.

Another nice thing about the YV's over the VT's is because they're so much cheaper it's easier to hit them with Ruthless Strategists.

Even when i like the swarm of Decimators, i would upgrade one to Bossk. For just one point more he is so much better.

I don't like the combination of a carrier with rogues. This seems a bit wasted. You are buying the rogue for the squadrons, and you are buying the carrier upgrades and the carrier ship. I would remove 2 VT for some squadrons that are for the Quasar. 4 Decimators are still more than enough.
For 46 points (2 VT and the rest to 134) you could even buy 3 TIE Bomber and Rhymer (making the Decimators a bit more dangerous to ships). Or Valen + Ciena + 16. In worst case (i know, its old style) Jendon + Stele. Better than 2 VT (as long as you have a ship to activate them) and cost about the same.

...or a (pair of?) Gauntlet to make things even worse for your opponent.

How do they compare to straight bombers, which are about 1/3 the cost? Is the Rogue flexibility the payoff?

They can chew through generic fighter-balls as well as do decent damage to bigger ships. The rogue is the key, it almost gives me an extra activation in the Sqn phase for each 2 Decis. Cost wise its personal opinion to take a single Deci or 2 bombers, I will take a Deci every time.
