New Article - Prepare for Ground Assault
Can someone break down what the article is saying? I get so confused with leagues, tournaments, games, seasons etc. I just hope I can get some acrylic tokens but it seems easier to just get them in ebay.
They on season 2 already?
Edited by Ken on CapeTheyre dropping quarterly, and the launch quarter was nearly complete when it came out.
I’m a little fuzzy on the whole organized play approach. Are these kits something that we have to convince our LGS to invest in or can anyone run them?

These are Legion's Organized Play Kits, just like the kits for X-Wing, Armada, etcetera.
Those are the kits that people are just looking at like Tournament Kits, because that's the most common way to run them, but these kits have always included some suggestions on ways to run them and you were always encouraged to do it however you wanted, whether it be dedicated league play, tournaments, or some other method.
The scope of the Legion kits is just a bit more expanded, because they're just trying to encourage the hobby aspect of the game. The painting rewards are a common thing with other unpainted miniatures games, and the scenarios that they are suggesting are a common setup for special tournament types or league events for other miniatures games. You have to handle them like other kits for the other products - the store has to buy them, they're not allowed to re-sell them, but they can use them however they want; either as the recommended format, as a tournament that uses special rules, or just a regular one-day tournament like you would see with an X-Wing/Armada/whatever event.
my flgs is not supporting legion at this time because hardly anyone local has bought it. I really want a shot at these acrylics but looks like im SOL.
@SeijiTataki is mostly correct. The Ground Assault kits are the new Seasonal Kit format that FFG is moving towards instead of the single "game night kit" that they have used int the past. Instead of just a one-shot thing they are designed to support 3 months of Organized Play. Yes, your FLGS is the one who would have to order the kit, however they pieces tend to end up on eBay after a while.
If you read the new article it gives a pretty good explanation of how it works. One of the Legion Outriders podcast episodes also has an interview with Asmodee NA's OP person that gives some more insight into the program.

We're recording tonight, and we'll certainly be talking about this, both from a player perspective and probably also from a store perspective.
seems needlessly complicated.

I don't think it's that complex. There are 2 parts to this kit: an escalation league and a campaign. We will be getting 4 of these kits per year. Additionally, we will get some sort of competitive events, presumably as a completely separate track.
@nashjaee The Recruitment Kit only has an Escalation Operation and a Strategic (campaign) Operation. The Ground Assault Kits will, presumably, have a 3rd Operation that lends itself to either League or Single Day play.
I'm the TO for our FLGS and I'm planning on doing the Silent Hail Operation as a 4-week Rivals League since it requires players to play all 4 games against the same opponent. Seems like the best solution.
The Gathering Forces Operation will, most likely, be a Single Day event, escalation tournament. I'd rather do it as a league but since FFG is getting this kit out so late in the month there isn't enough time to do 2 four week leagues before June. Not to mention that our players have prior commitments with work, family, and school graduations this time of year.
Regardless, I'm pretty happy with the format FFG has gone with on these kits. I like that they have linked-mission Operations and that they include new deployments in them, as well as changing up the condition selection.
Ah, that makes sense if they're supposed to serve for 3 months.
Yeah, these look like fun. Definitely excited!
I like the idea of a rivals league, especially the part where you just figure out with your opponent when to play.
BUT
I also like the aspect of being able to play against randomized people in the community. Unfortunately, per the guidelines, it looks like that is a "one predetermined night a week" kinda thing.
I hope FFG gives stores the flexibility to randomly pair people, but then let them play over the course of a week.

They do, at least in the Recruitment Kit Operations:
QuoteWe suggest using one of our three recommended Custom structures outlined below, but you may use your own Custom structure if you wish.

Also want to point out that both of the Recruitment Kit Operations state that all Recruitment and Ground Assault kit Operations are "Relaxed Tier" events. We don't have the official Tournament Regs for Legion yet, but you can look at the TR's for X-Wing, Armada, or pretty much any other FFG game and see what that means.
These kits are certainly a "here are our suggestions, but do what you want" thing. We are probably going to have a Single-Day Escalation Event in the middle of our Rivals League at my FLGS, just because there isn't enough time to do two leagues between now and June when the first Ground Assault kit is supposed to come out.
Edited by NeonWolfI love those objective cards--I want them for regular play! Especially Surrounded!

As long as you and your opponent agree, there's nothing that says you can't use these in regular play. ![]()
My LGS isn't doing Legion so this saddens me
