Character Creation, Combat and Excel

By kilburn2, in Anima: Beyond Fantasy RPG

Hi everybody,

I created a few Excel sheets to make character generation and combat a little easier. Since I am from Germany, they are up on a german site and the explanation for how to use them is in german, but I did use the english vocabulary for both character sheets and combat tables, so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out. In case you need help or something, I can give you a description of what to do here.

On the same site, there's also my collection of monsters and NPCs I've created to date. If you're interested, go to:

http://forum.hokuwo.de/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=63 for the character generation sheet

http://forum.hokuwo.de/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=64 for the combat table

http://forum.hokuwo.de/index.php?page=Board&boardID=32 for the whole of the downloads section

http://hokuwo.de/ for the whole site, if you want to look at it.

I'm always happy about any kind of feedback. Keep in mind that I am not a specialist for Excel and not a native speaker of english. I just like the game and wanted to make my life as a game master for it a little easier and see no reason not to share my efforts with other people who like the game.

Enjoy :)

OK, on further thought i noticed that the sheet for character generation isn't all that self-explanatory.

First off, the right side of the sheet is more important than the left... it's where most of the character building will take place. That said, the first information you need to give the sheet is your character's level which is entered on the upper part of the left side of the sheet. The sheet will calculate the amount of points you have to spend from that as well as your base presence and your level-dependend bonuses from that.

After that, go to the right side of the sheet, and fill in your attributes (in the "Base" Column). For convenience' sake, the attributes have a sum cell, which adds the numerary values of your attributes together, adding an extra point for the 10, as per the optional rules for building characters with points. After that, add any bonuses to your character's attribute due to level and race and other stuff in the "Misc" Column. The sheet will calculate your bonuses and add them where applicable.

Next Step: spread your points among your primary and secondary abilities, meaning combat, supernatural, psychic abilities as well as skills... do so only in the corresponding "Value" columns on the right side of the sheet. Notice the small box on the right side telling you how many points you have left and how close you are to your spending limits for the primary characteristics. Also, you can now enter any advantages and disadvantages your character has on the left side of the sheet. Additionally for you Ki-users, buy accumulation and ki points in the columns "Acc Value" and "Ki Value" columns to the right of where you bought attributes... your base ki values have been generated by the sheet.

Now, spend your Psi points by entering the Psychic Potential bonus you bought in the Psychic Potential box under your primary characteristics (you need the book for that), the sheet will calculate how many Psi Points that cost you and deduct it from your available total (on the left side of the sheet); also buy your innate slots on the left side of the sheet and write down your psi powers in the column "Psi Powers/Magic Paths" on the left side of the sheet. Also add any magic path ratings you have. the cost for psi powers (in Psi Points) goes into the column "cost" the cost for Magic Paths (in path rating cost) goes into the column "Rating". If you buy additional bonuses for your Psi powers, add them in the "bonus" column

Ki abilities and Dominion powers go into the box below that, along with martial arts and modules. The DP cost for modules and martial arts is written into the "Cost" column, the Cost in Martial knowledge for Ki stuff goes into the "MK" column.

Write down your equipment and then go into the upper part of the left side of the sheet, where you see your combat stats. Fill in your size modifier for initiative (20 for medium size) in the "Value" Column of the initiative box and the modifier for your weapon in the "Misc" column. Fill in your weapons damage modifier in the "value" column of the appropriate box.

To finish up, add your per-level-attribute bonuses in the "Misc" column in the skill table on the left side of the sheet... and you're done.

how do i download these? i tried a few things and nothing seems to work :x

Left-click on the yellow icon, a new page opens. Make sure the little dot to the left of the yellow icon on the resulting page is marked, then left click on the grey button named "Datei herunterladen" which should result in the normal download popup.

the resulting page icon is not marked, cannot mark. must i create an account and log in?

OK, I tried it without logging in to the forum and see where your problem is... so I'm guessing that yes, you'll have to create an account and log on. I'm sorry I didn't notice that before.

please share them elsewhere... on an en-US standard site without login needs, please

thanks

No problem, if you could give me a site adress , I'll put it up there.

Thanks. Or should I say Danke Sehr?

Interesting sheet. Thank you for making this.

What would be nice is if there was a actual application [similar to PCGen for D20], that could help in the creation of characters for Anima the other FFG games out here [assuming they all use the same game mechanics]. I am a loooooong time gamer [Mainly Palladium and D20] with about 15+ yrs as a player and GM, but even I find Anima's character creation process to be a tad bit daunting.

This excel sheet helps.

And hi again...

I spent some time creating a new excel-based character sheet to assist with character and creature creation. I tried to implement as many of the rules innovations from Dominus Exxet and (as far as possible) Arcana Exxet as I could. It is probably a bit more complex than my last one, but it is also more complete. Download and try it out and - if you want to - improve on it. I'm in no way a specialist with Excel, so it might look and handle a bit clunky, but it gets the job done for me, which makes my job as a GM much easier. The colour codes should help in entering the correct values into the correct fields on the sheet.

Feedback is appreciated :)

BTW, I created the sheet so that Martial Arts costs are not included in the cost for Combat, because otherwise the Tao is pretty much screwed in my opinion. If you want to redo this, just change the calculation to include the Martial Arts DP cost in the Combat Total.

I also did not count a skill as trained when only the level bonus from Core Exxet is spent on it... if a player wants a skill trained, he damned well can spend a few DP on it in my opinion.

Here goes:

rapidshare.com/files/3199541895/Anima_CharSheet_2011.xls

Enjoy! I hope it helps

Martial arts are considered combat/physical modules. Thats where the extra 10% goes towards normally. Isually for a total of 200 dp at lvl15

I know that... but unless a test run in my group proves me wrong, I'm going to implement Martial Arts costs like I said. My reasoning was as follows:

A Tao doesn't get any level bonus on attack and defense, so he is restricted to what he can buy via Martial Arts. If he wants to stay competitive with any of the pure fighter classes, he needs to spend 50% of his DP in attack and defense... leaving him with 60 points to buy martial arts at lvl 1, which is enough to buy 3 Martial Arts at the advanced level and not much else... if he wants to spend points towards ki accumulation and ki points, it really leaves him with nothing at all (and a Tao is supposed to be part domine).

Also, he must be careful on how he spends the points that don't go into combat as well, because the higher levels of martial arts have high prerequisites as well, so I thought it would only be fair to shift Martial Arts into the non-combat section.

As I said, I have no experience on what effects this might have on game balance since I don't have a Tao in my group, and the cost is prohibitive for most other characters as it is. And, as I already posted, you can change the underlying function yourself if you disagree with me.

I know exactly where you are coming from, but the fact is that martial arts are quite powerful as they are. Look at this character to start off.

Dont go telling me that this character needs to get a buff by being able to use techniques also. That fact that they are part domine is so that you can mix and match. Not everyone will go all out on martial arts. Some people will want to get techniques mixed with a couple martial arts. Heck my own 1st character ever played has 3 techniques and 3 martial arts and he is level 6. I find him balanced as he is, he doesnt need a buff.

But thats what i think, im not saying that you are wrong or anything, everyone has their opinions and it's your game.

Thanks for the sheet but i have my own home-made sheet i'm using.
