Rebel Harpoon Spam?

By AngryAlbatross, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I am trying to find a way to set off rebel harpoons. So far the best I can come up with is this.

=================
Phoenix Squadron!
=================

100 points

Pilots
------

Green Squadron Pilot [A-Wing Test Pilot, Harpoon Missiles, Deadeye, Guidance Chips, Snap Shot] (26) x 3

Ezra Bridger [Wired, Bistan, R3-A2] (22)

------

Is there a better way for me to set off those harpoons than Ezra with Bistan?

Hwk with TLT?

Or lose a snap shot for score to settle on last awing to shoot. Gives you two more points for a tlt ywing to replace ezra.

2 snap shots removed is enough for score to settle jess

The problem with Ezra is that he's throwing unmodified 2-3 red dice, which might leave you hanging. Wurms suggestion of Jess with Score to Settle is legit, though against only one target.

Ten Numb can push an unlockable crit, but costs a lot more so you'd have to drop a Green squaddie, and probably upgrade the other two to A-wing aces with the leftover points. Two is probably short of being "spam", but Ten will always set of a Harpoon if he shoots at it with the right equipment.

I recently played against a new Chewie list that had Thread Tracers on Chewie and 3 Harpoon Z's. That worked out pretty well for him in a couple matches, but relies on just throwing more dice to get critical by chance.

Then there was the Shara, Fenn, 3Z squad that made a splash recently. It's a clever arrangement with good output. Again though, just throwing dice to fish for critical.

@Javelin how often did you trigger your conditions with HARCpoon?

Here's the list:

I wanted to try to keep snap shot on, but yea it seems theres not a good way to do that and guarantee a crit to set off the harpoons. Thanks @nitrobenz for the Shara/3z suggestion, I will have to try something like that.

I was definitely on a Harpoon kick myself for a while. My favorite list was QDw/FCS& targeting synchro +3 bombers.

The biggest problem I have with Harpoon swarms is accidentally splashing your own ships, which is where getting a good trigger comes in. Keep us posted if you cook up something that works!
