Bolstered Armor

By Old Stormtrooper, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

The Rigger Talent Tree has "bolstered armor" and it appears to be a ranked talent. OK, here's my question: Is there another Talent Tree with "bolstered armor" in it that I am missing?

Sadly, no. And with only 3 splat books left in all 3 loves it send very unlikely given the careers that are remaining.

It may be revisited in a universal spec if they put anymore era/location books out that have any need for them.

Then it seems like it is a horrible tease and a shame not to include it in something else. I have a bunch of the books, but not all of them so I wasn't sure if I missed something. Thank you>

I wholeheartedly agree, especially since I'm playing a Rigger...grrr.

And you are most welcome. Wish I had better news.

it is not in fully operational or special modifications. So maybe a unive4rsal spec in a future era book.

And this is why I'm liking the Genesys talent system more and more... I know my rigger would be ecstatic for even one more rank in it.

As would I, but should this talent be ranked? I feel that being able to add +2 armor to most starships would be OP. Not game breaking, but being able to up the armor on a fighter to 5-6, depending on the model, is a bit much..... Not saying I wouldn't do it if I could, lol.

You already can, with Defensive Driver (also ranked, and more available) added in.

My character would be happy to pick up more ranks of Defensive Driving, but remember that Defense and Armor/Soak are two different things.

It's also why you couldn't just move talents over to Genesys without change, as several ranks in this would be broken.

Even at 3 or possibly 4 (not that even that many could have been included in various talent trees) this would not be as broken as someone might think. +3 or +4 to armor would allow for some of the turbolaser hits the Falcon took in the movies and books. Putting aside "plot armor", the Falcon would be space debris if +1 was the best that could ever be done on a ship.

I'd simply add a step rule to the talents. Step 1: This talent always counts as one higher when purchasing additional ranks -or- To purchase additional ranks of this talent, additional ranks are purchased at a number of tiers higher than normal as indicated by the step number. (I'd have to work on the wording.) So even if it started at tier 1, the next rank would be tier 3, then tier 5.

Not that broken. Assuming it is a Tier 3 (15 XP) talent, the next rank would be Tier 4 (20 XP). To purchase a Tier 4 talent, you’d need 2 Tier 3, 3 Tier 2, 4 Tier 1 talents. That’s 100 XP to get that second rank. It’s very focused and only applies to space combat. If that’s the focus of every encounter, ok. Otherwise, not a big deal.

I've created a matrix that lists all the talents, and what trees they appear in, as well as how many times they appear, and on what tier.

So if you need to know anything like this, drop me a PM :)

That said, in doing so, many Trees have ranked talents that only appear once in that tree.. i've not personally noticed (I wasnt looking) to see if any only ever appear once in the game, but I would assume it was Future Proofing them for later supplements, which may or may not happen, depending on what the authors come up with.
