Interesting.

In terms of the Marauder skills, I've never played a pure melee character in this system before, what are the "must have" skills to grab? Looking at the marauder tree they all look good.

Also, is the vibro axe a good option? I know there's a slew of melee options just wondering what are some good choices.

Feral strike, enduring and lethal blows are the good stuff. You want a vibro-weapon with monomolecular edge on it so you can crit with one advantage, can get pierce 4 on it and get like +50 on the crit role easily. That's how you ruin someones day. You want enduring and toughened so you don't fall over dead when they move out to short range and riddle you with blasterfire.

I'm like marge Simpson meets the hulk... Always nice till someone messes with my friends. My battle cry is, "Your not being very niiiiiiiiiice!"

Primary 4: Melee (obviously), Discipline (fear checks and Strain recovery), Resilience (Last One Standing signature ability), Vigilance (initiative checks)

Secondary 4: Athletics, Coercion (your social contribution), Survival (craft your own primitive weapons and armor), Ranged Light (throwing knives and using pistols)

For weapons, I’m partial to a vibroknife and energy buckler combination (less conspicuous) but the vibro-axe or vibro-greatsword are the typical big weapons.

What's the advatage of the vibro-ax or vibro-greatsword over a vibro-saw?

Comparing the saw and the greatsword, the greatsword does one less damage (+4 vs +3) but doesn’t require 5 Brawn to use properly (Cumbersome 5 vs 4). It also is Defensive 1 which I find more useful than Sunder. Both are Pierce 2, Vicious 2, Critical rating 2.

Vibrosaw hits yourself with full force if you roll a despair. Which seems pretty safe against minions because it's not like the GM is going to flip a dp every time for the fun chance of a despair. But it starts to get pretty scary if the enemy has several ranks of adversary and dodge. It's not a weapon you want to use if you're rolling against 3 reds. Vibrosaw to the face hurts like **** if that depair comes up, better to just not risk it, the added damage isn't worth it.

Is the greatsword two handed?

I would hope so

If you want to stay fairly low profile while still dealing stupid amounts of damage, I'd recommend Blast knuckles from Dangerous Covenants. While it lacks pierce, it deals more base damage than the vibro-ax or vibro-greatsword. Which is pretty damned nice whenever you want to go somewhere a six foot tall vibro-weapon would draw undue attention.

I consider the 1 strain to the wielder per successful hit to be a major drawback to the low strain threshold species and would limit the ability to use advantage for anything except recovering strain. This could also dissuade a PC from using the Frenzied Attack talent.

My favorite is still fighting with two weapons: a vibro-knife (serrated, monofilament edge) and energy buckler (for the concussive quality).

Dont forget the martial artist tree!

1. it gives you 3 parry

2. it gives you the abillity to pick a crit (up to normal if you are using a melee weapon and up to hard if you are unarmed)

3. Natrual brawler

4. Grapple makes it a **** ton harder for pepole to get away

5. 3 lvls or grit and 2toughened

6. cordination doge

If you are going for closecombat martial artist is youre friend!

Appreciate the help guys. So it is like I figured, if you want a melee character you really are limited to Trandoshan and Wookie. I didn't know if one of the newer races in one of the supplements had some kind +1 to Melee or something like that.

You could build a melee training droid instead,,, dump all in physical stats etc :D
