By Johnny3Days, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

So i have been reading about A Game of Thrones. I am really interested in playing. i just have a question. As far as i can tell all i need it this to start playing the card game.. i assume this is the core set i have read about.

http://www.gameslore.com/acatalog/PR_A_Game_Of_Thrones_Living_Card_Game_Core_Set.html

then once i buy that and get use to playing i can start buying chapter packs. if this is the case does anyone know of a united states based store to order from. my card shop does not carry this AGoT. thanks sooo much i cant wait to start playing.

Just about any major webstore that sells games sells the chapter packs.

Trollandtoad.com

ccgarmory.com

scifigenre.com

there are more, but start there.

Hi Johnny

Yes, the Core Set is designed to be an affordable entry point. Sadly, it has been out-of-stock in many stores for the past few months, though it should arrive from a re-printing pretty soon. Until then the Princes of the South and Kings of the Sea expansion sets would give you the cards needed to start playing with Martell and Greyjoy decks.

Many people use Coolstuffinc and CCG Armory for online orders, but your local friendly game store is likely to be able to to order it through his distributor on request. That may cost a bit more but could persuade the store owner to stock it, host regular AGoT LCG events or, at the very least, help the store stay in business! CCG Armory is not as good as Coolfstuff at keeping their online inventory accurate.

A number of recent threads on these boards have discussed which chapter packs are particularly useful for starting players. If you intend to buy cards for your group to play with (rather than each buying your own), then you may like starting with Princes of the South (as it contains rules for playing with just one copy of that expansion). The Core Set is the best value multi-player starter kit, when it gets back in stock in stores.

Winter.

Welcome Johnny!!! Enjoy this marvelous world!!! :-)

Thanks you very much everyone! I just checked and i found princes of the sun.. is that the same as princes of the south? It will most likely be me playing against my brother at first. so i am going to pick up the princes expansion.. how many decks can be made from this expansion... i would think 2 but i am probably wrong... i am really excited to have found this site and game... i apprechiate all the help i just dont want to buy the wrong thing... or not enough of the right thing... haha

Welcome, Johnny. "Princes of the Sun" is the correct title, and certainly what was referred to by another poster (sorry, forget who posted that). You will be able to build a good Martell deck from that expansion. The core set will net you starters for all other houses except Greyjoy (they have their own expansion titled "Kings of the Sea").

Hope you enjoy the game as much as we all have.

thanks a lot bud, just one other question is one expansion enough for 2 people to play or should i buy two of them? are there any others that are good for a beginner?

It depends on the expansion.

Kings of the sea comes with 1 copy of each card (basically one deck) and the resin house card (they packaged them together at first). Princes of the Sun comes w/ 2 copies of every card (so I guess 2 decks, though I like to have 2-3 copies of a lot of cards in my decks) but no resin house card (aviliable seperately as FFG realized, with a little prodding from its consumers, that one resin house card was enough and it was the cards we really wanted to pay for).

My suggestion? Pick up 1 of both. Play with one copy of the PoTS deck verse the copy of the Kings of the Sea Deck (take out the non house Greyjoy and non house Martell cards) thneafter you get used to the game more pick and add some of the second copies of the martell cards to the martell deck and the Neteural cards to greyjoy deck.
