Pilot "Wave"

By Animewarsdude, in Star Wars: Legion

This game really doesn't have waves, but two releases meant to fill similar roles. A Wedge Antilles and Rebel Pilots expansion, and a Soontir Fel and Imperial Pilots expansion. Wedge and Fel could be commanders that have command cards that represent calling in fighter and bomber strikes and are likely both budget commanders in the same vein of Leia and Veers. The pilot expansions adding new pilot cards that could be used for vehicles as well as either a Support or Special Forces grouping of figures. Both generic pilot mini sets likely being weak with blaster pistols, like range 1-2, white dice attack, but come with some ability to buff vehicles or repair them. The heavy weapon options for the Imperial pilots probably being the grenade launcher that they have in the classic battlefront game, and possibly a sniper or satchel charge placer. It sort of depends on if they might want to sort of work Inferno Squad into the release. The Rebel pilots likely having the heavy weapon options of the scattergun that they can get in the old Battlefront games and probably some upgrade that you could make use of in Rogue Squadron 3.

The idea is sort of rouge, but it'd be cool to see them in the game, since well it would be nice to have a list built around vehicles with Veers leading the ground forces with Fel sort of leading air forces. And well, I also just want some cool pilot minis on both side, it'd open the door for some cross play/ campaign play between this and X-wing or Armada.

To add upon that, I would also want to see pilot troopers such as tie pilots or rebel pilots. Not sure what they'd contribute though.

And isn’t Wedge kinda pairs off with Weiss now?

I Also want to see some TIE pilots, but instead of Soontir, why not Ciena?

as to a whole squad of pilots.. I'm not sure. There are other ways to do them. A generic trooper that can be added to a squad? Sure.

More creatively, why not also a crew upgrade that when a vehicle is shot down, you can deploy a pilot trooper? This is complicated though, but, could add some versatility. Your trooper squad engaged with Vader? Well eject from your t-47 (discarding it) and use your lowly pilot to secure an objective.

I'd like to see them as a "hero" release. A single person, not a commander. They would make some good objective material.

I did mention having Rebel Pilots and Imperial Pilots as trooper units, just as Support or Special Forces, mostly so that they wouldn't be made into the core of an army.

I mean, in a they are the only pilot upgrades at present sort of way. But Fel and Wedge sort of have the rivalry thing going, and both were starfighter commanders.

I mean I love Ciena in Lost Stars and all but I feel that Fel is likely more iconic, and did lead the 181st as opposed to Ciena who was mostly an officer in the book.

I get that, but there were times when pilots got out to go and do tasks in some of the books. And, well, I'd probably want to buy 2 or 3 expansions and be able to paint up them in different squadron flight suits rather than having to buy tons of packs that only have the one pilot in it. And, I did think about the whole ejection thing, but figured that might be a bit too wordy for an upgrade card, and it brings up tons of questions of how scoring might work considering you ditch the T-47. Like is that automatically added to your opponent's score? Do they need to kill the single pilot mini to get that score plus the cost of the pilot? Do we have to account for the Pilot's deployment cost when building the list?

I'd like to see hero units too, since I'm not sure how they will handle Chewie at the moment, I sort of felt he'd be an upgrade to Han but that isn't the case. But at present working within the system we know I went with the commander bit, plus Wedge and Fel were both actual commanders in the lore. And yea, they would make great objective material, like having to get them to a set area to score points, IE getting them to their fighters or to hijack some stuff, all kinds of fun possibilities.

I don’t think Fel and Wedge go anymore.... I mean, to the hardcore, yes, but to appeal wider, newer - you can pick more ... current canon ones out...

Hera and Skerris snaps to mind... if you really want just pilots...

We already have Wedge in-game, so replace him with another pilot... Biggs for instance.

Also, drop Soontir Fel and replace them with "Howlrunner", because we need more "Howlrunner".

Pilots as Specialists or even a Squad has been on my wish list for this game as I am going with primarily interior type table builds and am a big fan of Close Quarter Combat. I have also mentioned in other threads the desire to see Wedge and if need be Inferno squad but I would like to see a mix of Rebel pilots and Imperial pilots as a squad option.

If you are reading/listening FFG "Pilots Please!"

I feel Wedge at least is far more recognizable, especially to older fans, and fans of the EU. Fel to a lesser extent but he works as a good counter point and has the precedent considering his appearance in Rebellion and X-Wing. Hera, I look forward to getting but she feels more like she'd be tied to some Phoenix Squad shenanigans rather than being solely pilot/vehicle based. I feel that Skerris would more likely get the snub for Fel or more likely Inferno Squad, even if I'd prefer Fel more.

Why should that stop them from having Wedge in the game? Armada, and X-wing have characters show up in different roles and Wedge was the leader of Rogue Squadron and Red Squadron at different points as opposed to Biggs. Though, I'd love if one of the rebel pilot sculpts had a mustache so you could paint one up of Biggs, maybe even make him the squad leader. Not to mention possibly getting him as a pilot upgrade.

Howlrunner is pretty good, and iconic to us considering her prevalence in X-Wing and Armada to extents but of the two Fel still would be a bit more interesting in my mind. And possibly just because I feel Wedge and Fel are both good counter points to each other.

I want pilots and named characters to be able to bail out of vehicles to be replaced on the board by individual figures.

So, you know, Luke’s speeder can get shot down then he can take down an AT-ST with his lightsaber.

Light cheap units that can maybe repair vehicles?

Though full of flavour, would that not require an excessive amount of upgrades and additional sets to purvey it? The T-47 has already been released. One would need to create a "Luke in-and-out of a vehicle kit." It would require new cards (pilot Luke 'Trooper' card, pilot Luke 'Pilot' card, etc... And I doubt you'd be able to use a T-47 Luke as a Commander (because of the T-47's rank and the fact that there is no precedent).

Imagine making Veers being able to pilot an AT-ST then jump out of it when it dies and go on to wreak his inevitable (as it seems he will) havoc across the board improving his troops with his abilities. It seems, uncouth.

One of the main things holding this back would be points. Taking a base T-47 (@ 175) plus Luke (@ 160) is a 335 point model. At almost half of your force. Is it feasible? I don't think so.

Assuming current points costs.
