upcoming Epic doubles game - 400pts per player

By Surak, in X-Wing Epic Play

great ideas there - and I've taken a few on board and given them my own twist.

so first thing I did was add a sensor team to the CR-90

then I decided that I really did need some snub fighters - so in came

Tycho (PTL, refit, test pilot, autothrusters, VI),

Jake Farrell (VI, refit, test pilot, autothrusters, Intensity)

Airen Cracken (Snap Shot, Vectored Thrusters)

and

Sabine Wren - with no upgrades because I ran out of points :)

the game starts in a little over 2 hours, and with 2k points on the table I will be trying to get some pictures up on this thread either during or after the game

OMG! How have I never realized the awesomeness of this build before???

Some photos of the game.

500pts of traitorous Rebels teamed with 500pts of filthy Scum VS 1000pts of loyal servants of the Empire (guess which side I was on ? ).

Second time running the raider and the first outing for the Gozanti, me and Surak had a gentlemens agreement that we'd try and do a naval broadside with the two big epics. We had two turns (ish?) of exchanging fire at point blank range, I regretted taking an Ion Battery rather than going full Quad Lasers and came out of the engagment worse off.

That said, I think it was safe to say the Empire took the win. At the end of the game (didn't get many photos at the end as it was getting a bit late in the day), the Raider was limping a bit but definitely still in the fight, my Gozanti was chugging along nicely despite getting a hammering from the Kimogilas, and I still had two harpoon gunboats, 3 defenders, a couple of TIE l/ns that were pretty much unscathed and planning to converge on the CR90. My partner still had 16 ships on the table. On the opposite side of the table, the scum player only had 1 Kimogila left and Surak had the CR90, a few fighters and most of his support craft left.

My full list was -

Raider - Impetuous, Quad Laser x 2, Ion Battery, IG-RM Thugs, Backup Shield Generator, Sensor Team, Weapons Engineer, Optimized Generators

Gozanti - Suppressor, Shield Tech, Dual Laser Turret, Comms Booster, Docking Clamps, Automated Protocols

3 x Nu Squadron Gunboats - OS-1 + Adv. Slam and Harpoons

4 x Glaive Squadron Defenders - Crack Shot, TIE/x7, Twin Ion mk2

5 x Academy Pilots

Captain Jonus - TIE Shuttle, Swarm Tactics, Twin Ion mk2 and a Systems Officer.

So the game is done, and after a hard fought battle I'm sorry to say the Rebels (with our scum allies) failed to defeat the Empire.

Initial thoughts are;

My dice hate me

The CR-90 was brutal

My dice hate me

The Arc's performed well above their weight

My dice hate me

Roark and Esege were awesome support for the CR-90, but I really didn't need most of their upgrades

Oh yeah, my dice hate me

Tycho and Jake were amazing distractions

Etahan is nasty but got shut down quickly

The Ghost evaporated after taking fire from 4 defenders and 3 gunboats in one turn (turn 3)

Somehow both K-wings survived the game (as did one Arc and the Hwk)

Everyone had fun!

I love it so much. All those Epic ships and actual SQUADRONS of fighters. This is why epic is so amazing. Great pics.

Yeah, more guns destroys more ships in Epic, and it looks by my rough count that Empire had about 10 more ships. But the object was to have fun so sounds like everybody won!

Thanks for sharing!

Yeh, one of the imperial players doesn't get on with epic ships so he didn't bring one! We ended up facing 500pts of TIE l/n, Interceptors, defenders, an Aggressor, and a lone gunboat just from one of the imperials!

Still, we are already talking about doing another one before 2.0 releases (yes I know epic is staying 1.0 for the time being) and this time I might try something completely new to me, Epic without an Epic ship!

Up until this year, many Epic tournaments would end up just being fighter slugfests. The new Epic Tourney rules now require at least 1 Huge Ship per squad. The most recent Huge ship releases have had better upgrades for all of them to use that help beef them up, but its still tough for 150 points of huge ship to take on 150 points of small ships without being handicapped.

Yeh it showed in our game, useful to know for the future - fortunately we had the right number of epics on the table anyway so all was good :)

looks like the next one is going to be towards the end of July, so I'll probably continue this thread for the planning for that one - as long as I can trust Regnak to not peak too much ?
