Centicore before the FAQ (and after)

By JadinED, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

I have always been under the impression, that you could only activate 2 squadrons at close-medium range of Centicore from another ship.

Neither could those squadrons be at long range, just because the ship with which you activate the squadrons has Boosted Comms nor could it be 3 squadrons because of Extended Hangar Bays. An Arquitens can't be equipped with neither of those upgrades anyway.

Now, some people are implying that Centicore would even stack with a Relay squadron...

Was I mistaken that Centicore's title card effect does just what it says it does... unboostably? At medium range of Centicore...

When a ship activates, it is limited by its Squadron capacity.

When you activate an ISD with Squad 4 & just a dial, you may choose to activate 2 in range of Centicore.

But, and it is a big but! if one of them has the keyword Relay, that also comes into play, Centicore is not allowing you to activate more than 2 squadrons here, you activate a Lambada, and during its activation it can also allow the ISD to activate squadrons outside of its activation range, just like Centicore does.

So you aren't wrong, Centicore only allows you to activate up to 2 squadrons at max medium range.

No need to activate the Lambda. It just needs to sit there.

Looking at the new FAQ, the only restriction on using Lambda seems to be that you (the Relay squadron) need to be "in range to be activated." Not "In range of the ship" just "in range to be activated." You (the player) can then choose to activate up to X squadrons within distance 1-3 of you (the squadron).

This seems to pretty clearly indicate that any of the Relay-style effects count as being "in range" of each other so long as one Relay squadron or similar effect is in range to be activated (Centigore being at any range relative to the original command).

There's only one way to argue against this, and that is suggesting that "range" is referring to the Range Ruler only, which is only taken into account for the original activating ship. Perhaps this is clearer in other languages, but in English this would be a very awkward way to describe this restriction.

There was a tweet that, if I understood it correctly, states that if you activate the Lambda, it basically can "carry" two activations with it. If this is indeed the case it would be pretty awesome. Imagine that your ISD commands 4 sqads, activates Marek then Jendon from Centicore. Jendon doubletaps Marek and then activates the two other TIE/Ds that are already in bombing position.

Link, please?

That's not how Relay works, though. The Relay squad doesn't activate other squads with it. The rewording of it post-nerf has left us with some questions about chaining, but Relay isn't written to allow free tack-on squadron activations, it extends the range of squadron commands under particular circumstances.

That's not what he's saying in the example. His ISD has Squadron 4 and Jendon is "lugging" two of those activations along with him. In the example, the two "lugged" activations are going to Jendon , packaged with his single activation through Centicore. This allows 4 activations to pass through Centicore.

This is not how Relay works, however.
