Limited Ammo question

By HistoryGuy, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I was looking at the Dueling Pistols for a character I'm making for a new player and I saw the "Limited Ammo 1" quality. That was when I realized I don't fully understand how limited ammo works. Do you need the extra reloads to use it or does it just take a maneuver to reload it?

Basically, they have 1 "bullet" (missile, etc). As far as I understand it you would get one shot, and then have to use a reload to reload it. I don't believe the spare clip talent would help in this case.

Agreed, I think in these cases you have to track your ammunition, ie: you'd have to know that you have only 3 shots, 3 missiles, etc.

I use the dueling pistols with my character, and they are a lot of fun (not to mention, deadly). Plus, it adds to the tension, knowing that if you can’t get the job done in one shot you’ll have to spend a maneuver to reload...

That does make using the dueling pistol regularly a potentially expensive prospect.

My groups have always interpreted the Extra Reloads as a 1 use per encounter but doesn't go away. Using dueling pistols a character would have to carry 3 or 4 Extra Reloads. Double for twin pistol person. That would be quite the bit of weight.

There’s certainly an argument to be made that ammunition for the dueling pistol should be a bit cheaper than 25cr a shot, just talk to your gm about it. Perhaps 25cr buys a belt of 10 rounds or something

If extra reloads aren't consumable and are just 1 use per encounter, which is how we play it, then it's not as bad. Just extra weight. Heck, with the narrative system I could even see 1 being usable multiple times a combat depending on the GM.
