What does everyone use to play on?

By DraakRyuu, in X-Wing

I use a 4x4 thin sheet of ply that sits on a very warped old folding card table. Makes it easy to stash behind the couch

I used to play on a pool table in my basement. Now that I've moved, I'm having a custom gaming table built (4x4 table that can extend out to 8x4)

I've got this for my gaming, its the IKEA Kallax shelves with their clip-on table.
kallax-workstation__0366712_PE549109_S4.

It's basically amazing. All the storage I need for board games, plus the table to play them on.

I’m fortunate enough to have a 7’ by 3’ 6” dining table that extends to 9’ long.

When the wife and I went shopping for a new dining room table, my only requirement was that it be big enough for an epic game, so I play X-wing on that. We use it for all our family gaming needs.

I can just imagine this conversation, as you walk with the wife through the store ...

She's considering all of the aesthetics of the table, if it will match the curtains in the dining room, if it provides good feng shui, if her girl friends will like it, do the chairs that you currently have match the new table or do we get new chairs, etc., etc.

You are considering if it is at least 3' x 6', but it would be sweet if it is a little wider and longer, so that you can have storage for things like pilot cards, upgrade cards, tokens, etc. off of the actual playing field.

I have a 6x4 piece of plywood that I place over my card table. Eventually I want turn it into a table topper. Luckily I have a dedicated game room, it mostly just stays on top of the card table unless we want to other games.

Me mum's dining room table. In fact, it's where 3/4 of my collection is stored, because that's where I meet my brother to play.

My roommate and i can't pass a table or storage container of any kind without thinking if said item will work for xwing.

I used some 1x2 and screwed them to the bottom so it fits perfectly over the card table and doesn't move.

Our dining room table alternates between gaming and craft area. If it isn't X-Wing, Armada, Cataan, Carcasonne, or Munchkin, then it's full of Fiskar's cutting tools, a Cricut, two or three albums, and LOTS of cardstock and embellishments. We eat off of TV trays more often than not, but we have fun, and our trips to Disney properties are beautifully documented...

Looking for a place in June with the fiancé, screenshooting this!

Im lucky enough to have three gaming stores in a 2 miles radius of my place, so I always just use their tables since my place is small and the wife doesnt like the mess my games create

yup, me too!

When we moved into our new place and were deciding on a kitchen table I had the tape measure with me. I moved her off 2 different tables (2.5 foot wide ones) before she caught on that all the tables I approved were at least 3 feet wide... "your looking for tables you can use for X-Wing aren't you"

"shhhh, don't worry about it. I'm just looking for enough room for our larger dinners"

"yea, right. you want plastic space ships next to the casserole. don't lie"

Somebody at IKEA plays boardgames. Kallax is proof.

I bought an 8x4 MDF board, cut it in half, taped off 3x3 on each, and sprayed a good coating of Plasti-Dip. This is for home, where both boards can fit on our RPG gaming table, so I can host multiple games. It's pretty grippy, and works well.

When there's only one game, and it's casual, I break out the yoga half-mat, which is by far the most pleasant play surface, in my opinion. (It's not for serious games, though, because the beading is quite regular and would grant an advantage to anyone willing to count.)

I have a GripMat for carrying to local tournaments. I have several other mats, two vinyl and two mouse-pad material, but they're pretty terrible.

That looks pretty sweet with handy storage. Doesn't look like it would quite work for Epic, did they have a larger clip on table option?

When I play at home I play on a Mousepad mat on the dining table. Which is only 3' wide, sadly. If there is a new one to be bought, I will be looking for 3'8" to 4".

I got a table in the living room that was designed to fit arkham horror, so that's an alternative with 3'4", if it's not occupied by something else

I play mostly on the tables at FFGHQ.

I have the luxury of playing on proper tables made for wargaming, at the FLGS. I used to work there, so it's also free.

It's pretty nice

A department store was going out of business in my area, so I picked up a display table that is a 4’ by 4’ square for $5. Fits a mat perfectly with space for cards and things.

i have a 6x4 mdf I can place on top of it for epic.

Cheap and dirty.

One of the neighbours throw his old coffetable out, conveniently a tiny bit larger than 3'x3'. I got it for free!

Some work with cheap spraycans (black, white, red, gold), an old toothbrush and a layer of clear lacquer later:

Added drawers to the side, which you can draw out and set up pilotcards, upgrades, tokens damage cards.

Still have to buy a map someday if I see a cheap one which I like aesthetically as well.

Built this display in my office. It has a table top hidden behind the glass shelves. The lower wood shelves pull out and the table top comes down on rollers and rests on the wood shelves.
