What we really need are some ex- whingers.

Can I get an amen?

I'm a long-time X-Wing player who's always been interested in Armada. I've played the occasional pick-up game of Armada, and a friend loaned me the pieces to put a fleet together for a tourney two weeks back.

Just today, I bought the Armada core set. I figured I'd take the plunge. And so far, it's been a lot of fun.

There's been a lot of threads on here lately about how Armada is dying, I thought I'd inject a little positivity here. :)

Every game has its rabid doomsayers.

Ignore them. Their crystal balls aren't nearly as illuminating as they desperately want to believe.

Armada is wonderful and the slow release pace is wonderful. Why?

  • The game is very balanced and doesn't have power creep. Wave 1 ships are still viable.
  • Many of the ship models are from movie canon and look iconic. No made-up, fan-fiction (i.e. expanded universe) tripe that looks terrible and sticks out like a sore thumb.
  • If you're a collector type (e.g. "I have to have a complete set before being fully satisfied.") the cash layout isn't as brutal as it could be with a game that releases models on a more frequent basis.

CarribeanNinja said it perfectly - Armada's slow growth has aged it like a fine scotch.

What? the faq just happened?

I actually like the slower wave releases in Armada. I'm among those that provide all the components for my immediate gaming group, and having enough components to build 2 each of Rebel and Imperial fleets without limiting players too much is rather expensive. It does, however, make for a pretty impressive looking collection. LOL

I'm in the exact same situation, Leatherpants, so I get where you are coming from.

The slow release schedule is not all that big a deal. Considering all the ways each variant of a ship sculpt can be outfitted, it's not like a CR-90 purchase is "just one ship". And despite the slow releases, by now it's not like there isn't tons of options for each side for a newbie to choose from. The same churn through releases like X-Wing is not needed.

The great thing about Armada is that other than the new releases providing nice upgrade cards for them, original release ships like CR-90s are still perfectly useable in the face of newer ships, because so far anyways, Armada has not made a practice of having new ships replace old ships.

When did they re-add all the squadrons to the canon then? I'll grant the ships have been kept to the new canon (for now), but not everything in the game is that way.

I'm in Vancouver Canada. We have a strong X-Wing scene here, and there's a decent group of guys who also play Armada.

If you're a local, we play at Ages 3 and Up in Burnaby.

Ah, then I just missed meeting you when I had to bail on the tourney at the last minute.

Have you joined the local FB group?

I recommend sticking around here - the forum regulars are a good bunch. :) I’ve been a bit scarce recently has life has been busy but the FAQ has made me set aside some time!

You just start at a key moment!!!

This FAQ get rid of all little anoying thing that the game had in my opinion.

Armada still alive (even if you can read in some topics that it is dead) and will be for a long time!

Armada is life! ;)

Now bring me my SSD!

I'm just a member there, as I'm over the Rocks in Hothgary... But we keep planning on making a road trip to your scene :D

Yeah, I joined the Facebook group.

I actually traveled to Hothgary for the X-Wing Regionals early this year, and had a blast meeting people and playing with plastic spaceships. I was also thrilled to witness the majesty of The Sentry Box.

They were right. Armada has been dead since at least Wave 4. Either that or it died in that big gap between when the Core came out and Wave 1. We are just sheeple and keep buying the cool new ships that come out.

Sheeple, I say!

That’s where I hold the Tourneys here... Hooefully we pick up regionals next season for Armada, but if not, I’ll still be running something big.... like I am in May for the (impossible to get in Canada) Corellian conflict alt art cards ?
