Ideas for keeping your AT-ST dissassemble... -able?

By Squark, in Star Wars: Legion

For those of you who haven't had the chance to assemble the AT-ST, the AT-ST comes with two small caps that fill the holes where the hardpoint spot when you don't want to use the hardpoint. I tried one out, and it looked a lot better than the empty hole. Unfortunately, it is very, very hard to get those caps out once they're in. Does anyone have any reccomendations as to how one might make it a little easier to install those caps while still leaving the option to remove them and install the grenade launcher or Light blaster?

For that matter, does anyone have any suggestions as to how one might secure the leg joints but keep movement possible so the model could be reposed?

I ignored the pegs. They look nice, but not nice enough to really care.

The legs are tricky. The primary issue is the reverse joint itself. The foot to leg connection is tight and would be fine to repose. The little leg piece between the torso and first main leg piece also is a tight fit that connects without glue. The reverse joint though is more of a ball joint and while you could maybe magnetize it, probably isn't going to rotate up and hold.

I'm not sure if it would be all that valuable to do so though because once the feat are glued down the value of reposing the legs is pretty limited. I settled on gluing everything except the small piece between the torso and the first main leg piece. This is enough to be able to raise/lower and tilt the center torso piece enough to be able to move it around a little to accommodate where I want to turn the unglued head.

Don't bother gluing anything but the ankle bitz and head; everything else is a super snug fit.

Indeed, I just glued the feet to the legs and the ball joint, leaving everything else able to be taken apart.

As above, all the weapons except the big mortar launcher can all be added or removed at will, so long as you don’t glue them. Similarly, the caps can be removed if unglued just by using fingernails to find the seam (less likely to cause damage to the model than a knife, imo)

As for the mortar, that can be magnetized, although I did not care to put in the effort required. The front rectangle of the mortar actually detaches (mine was not very well glued on from the factory) to reveal a hollow core, presumably this was once an assembly step that they decided to skip.

Anway, there’s plenty of room for magnets in there, and the back panel can be pried off and then reglued, according to another poster.

Personally, I’m just going to glue the thing into place.

Because.

I glued all the legs in place, as i would never be that bothered about reposing it to be honest - laziness.

However I did decide to magnetise the weapons - i bought some 2mm (diameter) x 1mm (depth) magnets. A 2-3mm drill bit works fine, and i put the pegs into the holes and drilled a small space to put the magnets in.

I then did the same to all 3 weapons, they stick fine, and means i can have different loadouts and show weapons getting knocked off etc etc.

I did the same for the at-rt too - but only use a 2mm drill bit as the weapon sprues are slightly smaller than the at-st.
