All Ships Dimensions

By dwaynedauzat, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

I'm designing my own custom foam trays for my X-Wing Miniatures. I've asked in a couple of other threads about specific ship dimensions and thought I would start a single thread where all ship dimensions could be posted in a single place. So far I've acquired measurements of the following two ships:

C-ROC Cruiser
Length: 11"
Width: 4"
Height: 3.5"

B/SF-17 Bomber (rounded up to the nearest .25")
Length: 4.5"
Width: 2.5"
Height: 3.5"

I would also like to know the measurements of the ARC-170 and any other ship that someone may want to contribute. Total height with bases and pegs would be helpful too.

Thanks!

Ok. I know some of you will dislike this but.

Go to Wookipedia and find the dimensions part of each ship. Divide that by the scale, and there you go! This should work on most ships because, at least as far as I have seen, all X-Wing ships are in there.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure that will be exact, as I think some liberties are taken with scale, especially epic ships.

The main three that I can remember doing are:

X-Wing

TIE Bomber/Punisher

Vulture Droid (Off of Mels)(All three of 'em)

And now a fourth: The Resistance Bomber.

I'll go and check to make sure more are the same and get back to you guys once done!

@Nspace Amazing! Thank you!

And in alphabetical order too!

Ummmm... How much time do you have on your hands?

Not actually that much extra. The trick is that I realized that I wanted to get some foam for storage early on (when my collection was small) and so started taking ship measurements as part of the unboxing process. The longest part of it all was actually putting it in alphabetical order, as my worksheet is ordered by the depth of the foam that the ships will fit in.

Here's a tip.

Put it into a spreadsheet (Google, Microsoft, ect.) And "list in alphabetical order".

It should work!

@Nspace Where did you get your foam?

I got my foam from Battle Foam, using the Custom Tray Creator. Kinda on the expensive side, but I like it better than pluck foam (which I started with and picked up from my local game store). Being able to lay out a pattern that matches the number of ships in my collection, as opposed to the premade stuff which usually have too much of one ship and not enough of another, is pretty nice.

When I first started buying the foam, I had a big plan to buy it and a few storage boxes for home and then a separate bag that I could then load the foam into for gaming night. I'll still probably do that eventually, but a few players at my FLGS show up to game only carrying a small Feldherr case (the mini or the mini plus) that includes their one squadron for the night, tokens and templates and that's it. That minimalist approach is starting to appeal to me. :)

I purchased custom cut foam from foamorder.com and I'm cutting out the ship sections myself. I'll be storing the foam trays in modular Sterilite Drawers .

I used to bring my entire collection in Plano cases to the meetups. Then, as you mentioned, I started packing only one or two squads that I would play for the day and I can vouch that the minimalist approach IS a lot better.

you know most of the ships are not in 1/270 scale, right?

your suggestion would lead the OP to vastly wrong conclusions.

A YV-666 would be the size of the rebel transport, the rebel transport would be the size of an imp raider, etc. Just look at the airlock doors and cockits on the models... they are different scales which vary from 1/180 to 1/435

only about 1/2 of ships in X-wing are 1/270

That's why I never mentioned the scale. You need to know the scale to divide the actual dimensions yourself.

Hi! Awesome work. Any chance to make a copy of your spreadsheet and post the numbers in centimeters? Or share the spreadsheet so I can do it?

I simply copied the data that @Nspace posted into a spreadsheet and converted to cm. Hope it's correct.

Z-95 1.75 1.5 0.75 4.445 3.81 1.905

Just as a heads up on this: A few second edition resculpts are different sizes from the first edition models. For example, the Y-wing is slightly longer (2.5"; up from 2.25") and the new Tie Silencer is supposed to be a little smaller. But for the most part, the ships are the same size or, if different, are still within the same .25 inch rounding measurement.
