transport and storage

By Wiredin, in Star Wars: Legion

What are you guys doing for transport and storage? I'll be going the battle foam route eventually, but right now looking for a dirt cheap solution.

2 core sets, and one of each heavy.

The AT-ST seems to be the big one here..

I have a 16" tool box. I recommend not gluing the AT-ST all together. Take it apart. Easy for storage.

I’m not sure I can afford the down payment on one of those...

I’m thinking I might just get a shoebox for each faction and fill the remaining negative space with tissue paper to provide padding.

egg cartons are great for troops.

i haven't decided to do with these ones but for my Wotc SW Minis, adjustable tackle boxes like this one from Plano worked well for all the regular sized figures, Then I would use all the oversized areas for counters and dice ect. Those wont fit the at-st or probably on the t-47

I'll post a video soon, but I put small rare earth magnets under the bases and now they all megnetize to some sheet metal that I screwed into cheap stackable containers from Target. It is totally worth it to magnetize is them as they will never shuffle around. When I get home I'll post better pictures and magnet sizes.

You can even flip the boxes upside down and they don't budge.

OOC... what do you have on the bases of those speeder bikes?

I'm making a video soon, so you can expect something soon on the painting subforum. For now what I used is plasticard that I cut out and glued to the bases. I used zip ties and paper clips that I glued down to the card then I used Rustoleum grey gloss spray as the paint. It solves my problem of making the bases fit any terrain environment.

Cool, thanks. :) Looking forward to it.

I bought one of those huge Plano Stowaways from Walmart. They are pretty popular for X-wing, should be good for Legion. I think it will store an AT-ST, especially if I am able to magnetize the head to swivel and come apart easily. Anyone tried it already?

A friend replaced the ball joint with a large ball Bering and put a magnetic Washer on the head. I think tonight be easier to just glue the ball joint to the head, but leave it unglued from the body of the model; It's a pretty snug fit, and you can still rotate the head if you like, but it won't wobble as you move the model.

I'm diving head first into the battle foam option. I figure in the long run, it's cheaper to rip off the band-aid now rather than getting a budget option now, and going to battle foam later anyways.

They have an imperial wave one set that I ordered. Lots of extra room for future troopers, and a special spot for the ATST, and speeder bikes. I may have to get the odd extra tray down the road, but I'm not too concerned with that.

actually the ATRTs and the speeder bikes are my problem. I'll only have 1 AtST but the medium sized stuff doesn't like to fit anywhere and has fiddly bits that want to snap off.

Sounds interesting. Who is "they" though?

I got a toolbox and $10 worth of foam from my local hardware store. Chop up the foam, put it in the toolbox.

oh!, I didn't realize that was the name of the company, I'm sorry about that.

Thank you.

Wow, those are really nice. Not sure I can justify it yet, but maybe a holiday gift. lol.

I have both the P.A.C.K. 352 and 720. The Small foam trays are half the size of the Large foam trays, so if you stick to the Small trays you can use them in either case. I currently use my 352 for my X-Wing stuff and my 720 has other things.

Personally I think the pluck foam is a better investment. Battlefoam doesn't always make the most efficient use of the space on their trays. A good example is the Rebel tray with the 2 T-47 cutouts. There are 2 AT-RT cutouts on the same tray which means that it is a 4" deep tray. You could store the T-47 vertically on its side in a tray that deep yet they have a horizontal cutout for 2 of them. Lots of wasted space there.

This is what I'm doing as well. Way cheaper than foam and surprisingly easy.

One annoying thing I found? The AT-ST could probably be transported safely in its box (Its legs fit snugly into the largest plastic compartment, and the head can be tucked beneath them)... if only the base wasn't attached.

For those who are unwilling to do the time for rare earth and don't plan on flipping theirs upside down, I have used magnet strips or roles from Wal-mart and glued them on the bottom of bases. Unless you drop the box or swing it around, the models will stay upright when placed on a metal sheet glued to the bottom of a plastic tub.

Been thinking of using a stanley click and connect. Do any stores in the USA sell pluck foam in store?
