The Local Bulk Cruisers

By NerfYoda, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

Not my first attempt, but my first decent one. (My core set TIEs and Mel’s Liberty never saw the light of day). The ship will replace my Pelta Model.

Next to a CR90

Special thanks to those who’ve provided tutorials and suggested colors to match ffg’s.

Nicely done. I'm curious about your color choice for the engines. I am not trying to be critical, I'm just curious why red as opposed to blue?

Red matches the CR90 and Assault Frigate engines.

Red/Orange is perfectly fine on Rebel ships, as it adds to the "Hodge Podge" fleet look.

For Imps... I have only used it on a Arquintes I wanted to make stand out, and my SSD.

It is very inspiring to see your besutifully painted Bulk Cruiser as I just ordered my first set of Mel's ships at the weekend inc. the Bulk Cruiser (sorry FFG, i could wait no more!). I am just amazed how well it looks painted up and very excited to get my delivery.

I am currently dreaming up scenarios for it to play out, inc. one as a Corporate Sector cruiser responding to a Rebel raid.

Btw, is there any advice or pre-existing posts for prepping Mels shios for painting e.g. pre wash with washing up liquid to remove residue?

Bear in mind i use FUD exclusively. I soak in supergreen overnight, give it a scrub with a tooth brush. Let sun dry while I'm at work, and then I can get into priming.

Approximately a billion.

Nice paint job. I have been looking for something to replace the Pelta model for a little while now and I may just end up borrowing the idea.

Yeah the Bulk Cruiser is more or less useless outside of being a carrier from the lord. Good idea on putting it as a Pelta.

That's a great paint job! Mind sharing the specifics of how you got the lighter hull effect?

If I played peltas more often, I'd really be tempted to pick that up.

Your ship is a very convincing arguement to get one and use it in the same way.

Not the OP, but you can generally paint lighter then you follow up with a wash (I use Nulin Oil though most washes will do. Citadel Agrax Earthshade works well in this situation as well.) Then drybrush some highlights and such.

Edit: I can English goodz

@TallGiraffe thanks for the tips -- looking for the specific colors they used for that light hull though, that turned out perfect.

@NerfYoda , did you modify that ship? I'm assuming it's one of Mel's Neutron Star -class bulk cruisers, but the model on Shapeways has very different engines.

Not criticizing in any way, just curious.

I believe that is one of Utar/Tsalt's sculpts.
