Rules Reference 3rd Party Printing Release?

By flvolunteer, in Star Wars: Legion

Has anyone been able to find any copyright release to have the Rules Reference printed? In the past I've had my local office supply store reject print jobs without a copyright or a release to print. I figured I would ask before I subject my poor little home printer to a thrashing every few months :)

Game Well!

MR Cupcake

There is none.

As it is a living document, FFG does not intend for it to be printed.

I'd think Customer Service/Support would be the place for that...

I just ordered one online through my local print shop. They didn't check. I know Ill have to print it again every so often but that $10 makes thing so much more convenient than having to try and find the rule on my phone while I play.

An interactive app for it would be cool

Okay, maybe it's dependent on the diligence of the printer. And, I agree, worth the $10 to print now and again is worth it IMO as the quality will be better than what I can produce at home.

I'm planning on printing a copy myself using the home printer and page sleeves I've used for various things with other games. I prefer a hard copy of rules with me, especially since the main area I game at doesn't have wifi anyway and there have been issues in the past with some people having modified pdf files...

I prefer hard copy too. :(

It’s times like this when I love owning a high quality laser printer.

My advice would be to find a shop that will look the other way. Because I’m not sure if FFG will ever officially provide a license to print the thing.

Use an online service. You will find one soon enough that will not bother to check for, or just not care about permission.

Local Library?

It’s really annoying and cheap of them not to include the rules in the game. I’m old school and will not be trying to read the rules on my tiny phone or tablet.

The rules are going to change over time. Do you expect them to mail you a new hard copy each time they make a change? I rather have the PDF and then you can use a tablet or print it however you like. It is not cheap, it is from feedback from other FFG games. It is far batter than having 50+ pages of FAQ or Errata. You can bookmark, highlight, hyperlink and even take notes to PDF. I also keep a OneNote for my own notes that even allows me to take pictures if I have to. Everything is on my Galaxy Tab 3 and gets sync to the cloud. The tablet goes in my backpack and it I consider it a necessary devices just like the movement ruler is in this game.

About this RRG PDF, anyone else having problem with the weight of it ?

All the images are hi-res including the background. Most of my devices are super slow to display it. Making reading it a painful experience...

I do not have any issues. Kindle HD 8, Google Pixel Phone, Galaxy Tab 3 and i3 Notebook PC. What devices are you using?

So that's just me... On a i5 win10 laptop, it takes up to 7 seconds to go from page 5 to page 6. On my phone it is up to 20 seconds. I gave up on a Kobo Aura (eReader).

I 'll try other apps than the stock ones.

At least they aren't putting out a hard copy and forcing everyone to buy an updated version of it ever 6 months to a year.

The rulebook is totally desiged to be printed. Their digital designed documents have page numbers on only one side of the page and lower Rez images.

Can I ask a question about the 'living document'.

I want to know, when browsing on my phone or tablet, can you search for say...'dodge' somehow and it jumps to the relevant portion of rules?

I tried it and it didnt seem to work, I think it just jumps to the point where it finds a match and it can just be in any old jumbled sentence about something unrelated really.

A search and jump to the correct rule would be great...if its possible?

The index is hyperlinked.

what does that mean?

On the phone, I tested by searching for 'dodge' and it took me to a page in the document that had the word 'dodge'...it was just a random page that had the word dodge in it, not an index or the actual rule listing for dodge?

Thanks

@VAYASAN - there is an index at the end of the document, you can quickly look up the rule you're looking there and there is a hyperlink right there that will redirect you to the part of the RRG describing that rule.

Adobe's mobile app doesn't support that, unfortunately. Or at least, it doesn't seem to be enabled by default.

If you use EverNote upen the rule books in that on your phone. The hyperlinks in the index and the ones in the related topics of the Glossary all work, at least on iOS.
