Things you absolutely want to see in the game

By MagiusDel, in Star Wars: Legion

We have a thread all about what we don't want to see in the game, so why don't we take a bit of time to talk about what we'd like to see in the game.

I'll kick things off with a few of my big wants:

1) Asymmetric Objectives - while the current objective system is great, it's pretty apparent that they wanted to ensure that both players interacted with them in very much the same way. I would love to see some objectives in the game that ask for different play styles from each of the players to do well.

2) Small Game Support - I'd love to see some official support (including Scenario cards) for small scale games. 400 points, 1 Commander, 1-3 Troops, and up to 1 each of Support and Heavy units on a 3x3 board... This would be a great format for introducing the various Scum factions into the game and see which ones players want to see more of.

3) Large Game Support - On the opposite end of the scale, I'd love to see some official support for 1600+ point games, complete with AT-ATs, Fighters, and whatever other big battle stuff we want to see. Also, guidelines for running a massive multiplayer game would be very much appreciated.

4) A Faction/Subfaction system - Rather than having a separate faction for each group of characters that could show up, I'd rather see a Light Side/Dark Side/Neutral setup where you choose Light Side or Dark Side, and that limits the figures that you have access to. This would lead to some odd combinations, sure - rebel and clone troopers running side by side would certainly tilt some heads, for example - but it would allow more experimentation in bringing new stuff into the game without committing too much to any particular faction or era.

So, what do you all want added in to the game?

Custom/generic Commanders!

For me, as a first time gamer, I would like ...

The $$$ dropped on my armies and said armies to be playable in 6 months; 12 months or 18 months. It think you call this power creep. Not just the money (hard dollars) but the volume of sunken time (soft dollars) in my painting that I expect to realize full investment upon. I would like to see FFG take everything learned from X-Wing, which from reading has had issues in the power creep department, and make sure those do not happen here.

Give the public, as much as they want, and be smart about it. There is the age dynamic with Star Wars fans. Those that had a childhood shaped by the OT. Others defined by the Clone Wars era of films and animated series. Account for that and create a gaming system that involves each, while not making 100% of the originally released items irrelevant and subject to ... power creep.

Consider movie, book and animated content and, then, make characters applicable to the game. For instance, someone like B Fett. Movies ... not a lot of screen time. Books and cartoons ... very different. Find a way to work him into the game in a logical manner without overtaking the game. Can be said with many, many, many characters. Logical via faction or logical via special force ... something that would make sense ... without introducing power creep.

Mini Accessories ... maybe, some head swap options ... arm swaps ... just enough to for variety. I don't need a sprue with 100 variables to consider. A lighter version of the full hobby experience would be enough.

Selfishly, need Tusken Raiders. Lots of them. You may want your droids or clones or a specific Jedi or Dengar and I want Sand People.

Naval Troopers and Imperial Army Troopers.

Also Lando and Wing Guards for some unconventional Rebel Units.

That "Occupier" Tank from R1 and Rebel Speeder Bikes.

See, I thought the thread about what we don’t want was a counterpoint to all the other threads about what we do want, and now we’ve got another thread about what we do want...

Which means another place to say CLONE WARS!!!!

Maul

Maybe another expansion like the objectives/terrain one they will be releasing. Except this type with moving/interactive star wars creatures. Whether its a bantha herd, dewbacks, tusken raiders that can randomly attack both players etc. I just want to see more flavorful stuff. Plus stuff like death troopers, shoretroopers, most GCW era specialist troopers, an E web weapons team.

I want to see, in no particular order (okay so rules may be a push on some but that FFG's problem!) Dewbacks, Tauntauns, Jabba, all bounty hunters, ATAT (I know that won't happen but that's not what the thread said!), Chewie, Yoda, Wampa, Palpatine, Royal Guard, a good sized Hoth ion cannon for scenery, jump troop Stormtroopers, loads of droids, alien head swap sprues for rebels, lots of alien options in future releases, almost everyone in Mos Eisley and then even more Tauntauns. Right, that is quarter 2 and 3 covered, I'll come back to you all when those have been done.

Tauntains, but not the crappy ones from ESB. I want the Alpha Tauntauns from SWTOR. The ones that will agro you from the dark side of the moon and beat you into giblets for having the unmitigated gall to be alive in its general vicinity.

Likely gonna get some hate thrown my way but...

Ewok support units

Ewoks. :)

All my favorite space guns and space gun accessories.

Some of FFG's original creations from the RPGs.

Cool terrain/objective interactions direct from FFG.

Confederacy of independent systems....

I want battle droids, destroyer droids, supper battle droids, hellfire droids.... and so on.

Hero characters that are not commanders.

Like Boba fett , agent kallus or a elite trooper for empire.

Characters from the ghost crew like sabine, zeb and such.

Perhaps like unit uppgrades. Like adding kallus to a Stormtrooper unit and sabine of hera to a rebel unit.

I want chewbacca, but I'm not sure if he could be a commander.

I would actually wanna see some ewoks. Sure they are silly, but they are a big part in the endor battle. Or we get some wookie commandoes, that would be cool

Dewbacks, Tauntauns, Jawas, droids, Boba Fett, Scout Troopers, Ewoks in gliders, Imperial Army Death Squad Commanders ...

Varied objectives, additional scatter terrain ...

Transparent dice and acrylic activation tokens ...

More factions ...

OP official rules ...

ATAT, because I'm going to put Veers on there and scream, Maximum Firepower!!!!!

I really want to see the other major armies from the movies. I'll take it a step further and say that as the game develops I would like to see the various characteristics of the factions impact their play style a bit to provide different feels to each army.

What I envision:

  • Rebels - Jack of all trades, very well-rounded
  • Empire - A lot of powerful heavy vehicles
  • Galactic Republic - Jedi and Force Powers featuring prominently in their strategy
  • Separatist Alliance - Very swarmy, LOTS of figures but low cost / low power
  • Resistance - Specialist focused, hit-and-run, kind of like the recent Rebel units announced
  • First Order - High value, very powerful Trooper units. Quality over quantity

I think these would be very thematic, and would also mix up the types of enemies that we could be up against. Can easily think of 10 commanders for the first 4 factions, and I expect we will be close to that for Resistance and FO once the last movie and some of the expanded universe stuff releases.

I have thoughts on how I would work in additional factions that would be more "neutral" (Scum) but I'm less set on that and more interested in absolutely wanting to see the above 6.

Thrawn
Boba Fett
At-At

(Not necessarily in that order)

Clone commandos - a Special Forces unit of a Sergeant plus three heavy trooper slots with a requirement to fill all of them.

Droids.

Veers has at-ats behind him in the card art, give me those! Probably as inconceivable as the much asked for SSD in Armada, but one can dream.

Rebels characters!

I'd like to see more terrain boxes so I can have a destroyed, in scale TIE Fighter or X-Wing without having to find one and then butcher it in a way that is aesthetically pleasing and won't fall apart in 15 minutes.

Characters from Rebels

Scar Squadron storm trooper unit

"mini" hero. like instead of a army commander like Veers or Han, give me a special dude that i can make a Unit commander. he could fill the personnel slot or the heavy weapons slot for the unit but count as the unit commander

an all mandalorian army

Inquisitors, TX-225's, Deathtroopers, Krennic and Shore troopers.
