2018 Campaign Against Cancer Tournament!

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing

This is always a really fun tournament, so I thought I'd open up a thread to discuss it a little.

Where is your tournament held, what are you taking, and about how many people do you think will be there?

Mine is in Idaho, and there should probably be about 25 people if I had to guess. My wife is taking 4BQD and I am taking Vynder (PTL, AS, Homers, Title), QD (FCS, LF, ASTS, Title), and a Delta Defender (x7, Twin Ion Engine).

I painted my GUNBOAT gold colored and I'll see if I can get a pic of it in here.

I know it is supposed to be a fun tournament, but how bad would it be if I took a list I was thinking of taking to Worlds? I wasn't expecting to go until a few days ago and my practice time is limited. It is a meta list, so could be rough against more casual lists.

A lot of people use it for World's practice especially timing. Wouldn't worry about it. List range from all power levels, reason why they do the pods the way they do.

Mine's Orange County, bunch of us from TeamMechKillers (Temecula, CA) are going and we are also streaming (twitch.tv/teammechkillers). I'm not sure what I'm taking. Trying to find something that's fun, that's also Tier 1/2 borderline. Debating on PS11 Han/Poe, Kylo Boats, or Inky/2 Nu's/Seinar.

Mine is at my local game store Dice Age in Vancouver, WA. I think it sold out of room at just over 40 people.

Last year, there were a mix of "for fun" lists (like the guy that brought all quadjumpers) and competitive/meta lists and players. A lot of the prizes are done by raffle between rounds, and there is prizes for the top and bottom pods, so if you are there for loot, winning isn't everything.

Last year I brought some rebel jank that I had never played before and got thrashed 1-5 (one loss was a tie that took three final salvo rolls to determine). This year I am bringing a bit more serious squad (a palp aces variant I've been practicing with) and plan on trying to win it.

Behold! The BLINGBOAT!

The Golden GUNBOAT!

The Golden GUNBOAT!

the closest to me is six hours away and unfortunately, I can't make it. Sure hope to go next year. Our local store wants to host an event so that would rock!

Thanks. I'm playing in the one at NOVA. It was going to be my big fun Spring event, but it turned into something a bit more serious now. I don't care about the prizes there, so losing doesn't bother me.

FFGHQ. Probably bringing either Nymiranda or Poe Dash. Most likely playing one of those at worlds. Played Scum my first worlds, imps my second, so now I need to bring rebels.

I live in Des Moines and we were told we couldn't have a CAC tournament here because there were others being held within 3 hrs. That decision made it so several of us can't participate. Considering this is for charity you figure they'd want as many people as possible to be able to get to a tournament. I'm hoping it's different next year so that more people get a chance to be a part of it.

How do you build your Poe/Dash if you don't mind me asking? That was one of the ones I was thinking of taking.

From what I understand, most of the bigger prizes are handed out via random drawing. That way, win or lose, everyone has a shot at the cool stuff. One of the super cool things about this event.

I'll be going to the one in Independence, MO. Bit far from me, but a few of us local players are carpooling there.

I'm debating which list I want to bring. On one hand, I want to bring a list that I'll have fun with (aka, a list that I enjoy flying that doesn't immediately result in me getting curb-stomped by everyone), but on the other, I do want to just try some janky, fun lists. I've got three main lists I toy with, so I'll probably pick one of the three. Be handy to use CAC as a practice for an upcoming City vs City tournament I'll be doing a couple of weeks later, but I really don't want to be "that guy" that brings his super competitive list to a casual/fun charity event. Decisions, decisions.

I've gone to the one in Vancouver every year they've had it there (starting with CAC-2). I commute from Tacoma and always manage to bring at least one or two others with me. I'll be there again this Saturday. It's a fun tournament to travel to. Great group down there.

Going to the one at East Coast Gamers in Jersey. Currently planning on Rey/Low, but also considering Ryad/Vess/OL. Bringing a couple co-workers who are super new to the game as well.

My FLGS (OKC) has been hosting these since they expanded after the first year. I bought a ticket but then had camping plans, then got canceled, but my wife volunteered us (me) to help her best friend move, only day she could do it. I will stop by and get my coin and see what people are flying.

These will have meta builds down to fun builds. Last year I had a good Imperial build (non Emperor build) and blasted through the first wave and got to the top pod, then I faced a bunch of upper level players full of Shadowcasters and other new hotness and it went bad. It was my first time against them and I was ill prepared. I wasn't expecting to win, it was my first time playing in months, and I was happy to make the top pod and to support a great cause pushing little plastic ships on a table.

I'm going to the one in Denver. I'll be bringing along some extra prizes and wearing a referee jersey. I expect to fill out at 48 people!

The format is awesome, because anyone who's practicing for worlds can, and anyone who wants to fly something more fun can as well. Both will get their expectations met and have a good time. The winner gets a nice shiny non-ffg plaque and everyone else has chances for amazing prizes. Last year I handed out 2 sets of regionals dice, randomly!

Jacksonville Florida got to host a CAC this year. It's sold out, and I'm looking forward to it.

Like most I haven't picked a list yet. unfortunately, my competitive list involve the same ship/s as my fun list, the good ole decimator.

I was thinking of maybe 4 strikers and howlrunner, seems fun.

Love the Irony, sounds as if it's best to bring a cancerous list to raise money to assist in the eradication of cancer...lovely.

@WookieHairdresser has a kinda jankish but tough fun without OP-ness; and @Pooleman, your triple bomber list looks fun and also balanced. Those I'm good with, haha.

Where's my tea?
