Star Wars Icons Missing from Armada

By eliteone, in Star Wars: Armada

Hey! With Wave 8 right around the corner from being announced, who or what essential Star Wars icons are missing from Armada? For example: Where's Chewbacca? Emperor Palpatine?

How would you build/design one of these missing icons? Just off the top of my head I'd give Chewie something to with Repair or Raiding. Maybe even prevents raid tokens? "Let the Wookie win!"

At this point, I have to question the statement “with wave 8 right around the corner from being announced...”

... do we have anything other than HOPE for that?

Well, two actual facts: Worlds/Star Wars Day/Solo Movie/Star Wars Toy reveals are coming up & Legion has been rolled out with expansion announcements.

And then the anecdotal: Whenever I start seeing multiple threads across the gaming community with hypothetical guesses/excitement brewing etc., it's a good sign that the NDAs are going to be lifted soon andthe announcement is on it's way. Just something I've noticed over the years.

If you ignore all other missedprecedences so far, sure.

my point is it’s only a hope not a fact

As a Rebel, I feel that is the single greatest cop out response...

You can keep the hope. I'd rather have fleet support :D

I just don't want any more officers. Give us some iconic characters in something then the already clogged to the brim officer alot.

So long as none of MY fictional children have to be Han's non-movie fictional children, i'm cool with that.

grumble grumble yuuzhan vong grumble grumble

From a gameplay perspective i want a rebel sloane equivalent. I have no idea what said character would do but I feel like wedge would fit the bill.

Just watched ROTJ... I definitely would like to see Lando on the falcon. Also Leia in bikini and no I'm never going to stop asking for that.

I'm onto you Dras. All caps'ing HOPE? Duh, of course it's Holdo for Rebels and Hux for Empire. Don't know what they would do. But, you almost got me with your feint.

But for real, though.... 1. whatever- kilometers-long ships, tens of thousands of crew...and only a single officer?

That seems...unlikely??

(I mean, okay, so maybe the 'officer' slot just refers to the single Officer of the Deck at the time combat is ensuing - but you'd at least assume you could wake up a few other senior officers, as needed, for a combat situation...)

Does it really break the game to just let you buy as many officers as you want, paying their cost as appropriate and respecting the uniqueness trait?

Yes - 24pts and my command 3 ship is suddenly a command 1 with those 6pt officers that say "before revealing a dial, you may change it to x"

Engineering captain, navigation officer, tactical expert and wing commander.... and you might only want 2/4...

For example, a quasar+imp with sloane fleet.

The imp doesnt really want to swd, thats the quasars job. It plots CF dials on all of its dial and has engineering captain and navigation officer.

Well it only takes 3 pts to reduce a command-3 ship to command-2 ('Relentless'). And if you are really spending 24 pts on a ship to effectively (kinda) reduce it to command 1, I'll happily take the extra activation and deployment slot from another flotilla...

The second half of my post takes that 24pts down to 12....

And if i take the slightly reduced efficiency 3pt versions that require command tokens im only really spending 6.

I still don't see that as "game breaking" or even "game changing", especially given the caveats. Those officers (at least the non-token version) are super handy for newer players to give them equal footing against more experienced players, and I think they are priced fairly for that. But I can't recall the last time I felt 'oh, man, I really made totally the wrong command decision call for this turn'. I mean, heck, as you note - half the ships in the game already have their command dials effectively locked in for the whole game (Nav team Demolisher? Nav commands, all day long. Quasar fire? Squadron command, every turn. etc) - to someone already going in with a good plan, the flexibility those officers bring isn't a bad thing...but almost never worth the cost.

I'd be more concerned with combos of unique officers that I'm not thinking of, but even the most powerful of those start getting crazy expensive, so...I remain skeptical that there is really a problem, here.

At the end of the day your opinion is yours and my opinions mine so ill respect that :D

...... but obviously FFG thinks theres either a) a problem right now with having multiple officers on every ship (the peltas title exists so who knows there) or b) there will be a problem with multiple officers in the future because.....

.... there is only 1 officer slot.

Sooo this whole topic of having as many officers as you can pay for, while probably fun to houserules, doesnt really matter.....

.....on the other hand having one ship with every officer avaliable to that faction on it would be funny as ****.

Edit: funny as crap? Maybe one day these profanity filters will make sense...

I also think there's a lot of opportunity for prominent characters that already exist to given alternative role options.

We already have Vader (squadron pilot), Vader (commander), and Vader (boarding party slayer of souls). We also have Leia (fleet commander) and Leia (ship officer). I think this is great, as prominent characters have served a variety of roles at different times in their service.

I'd be happy to see Lando as a Commander (this stretches a bit into the EU, where Lando commanded one of the two recovered ISDs for the Rebellion, but even with new-canon it's not unreasonable to assume General Calrissian, Hero of Tanaab, would be given a fleet). But even before that, I'd rather see Lando, Gold Leader, as a YT-1300 Millennium Falcon squadron pilot (next campaign pack, please please please!). Having unique characters present several compelling but exclusive options creates even more hard choices when list-building, which is fun as long those exclusive choices aren't over-saturated (which they are nowhere near, yet).

Squadrons in general present an excellent opportunity for more characters to make an appearance (e.g. General Merrick or Garven Dreis in X-Wings, Iden Versio in a TIE Fighter, etc.).

Pretty sure Lando IS a fleet commander in the new cannon too.
