Purchasing question

By Pooleman, in Star Wars: Legion

Do the expansions come with a lot of cards that the course it does not come with? I just bought a course set and it seems like a better value to buy a Nother core for 80 bucks instead of buying four of the cheaper expansions for $100. Thoughts?

For troopers, you're missing out on impact grenades and grappling hooks by buying another core.

Best value? Swap your imps for someone else's rebs or the other way around.

There are one or two cards in the expansions that are not in the core set.

For troopers you get impact grenades and grappling hooks (as Dwight explained).
For speeder bikes and AT-RT you will get Comms Jammer

Then of course the T-47 Airspeeder and AT-ST are completely not included in Core Set

Those extra upgrade cards are also in the next batch of expansions.

Which batch of expansions? It sounds like everyone is advising against the second core set.

The snow troopers and rebel equivalent will have grapple and impact grenades. I would recommend a second core because of dice and barricades and extra measurement tool and speeders and at rt

Stormtroopers, for example, come with Impact Grenades and Grappling Hooks. Those cards will also come with the Snowtroopers and Rebel Fleet Troopers.

74-Z Speederbikes come with Long Range Comms and Comms Jammer. Those cards are also in the AT-ST and T-47 Airspeeder.

There's not so much upgrade card chasing as there is with a game like X-Wing.

I think a 2nd coreset is the best value. The only reason to doubt is if you are only gonna collect one side and have no use for the other side miniatures... but you can always find a use for those. The expansion exclusive cards will come with future expansions too so u'll get your hands on them eventually.

A second core it is. Thanks guys.

I opted NOT on the second core but I don't think there is a wrong or right answer that fits everyone.

For me, Impact grenades are important, as are dice. But since I'm going to go for rebel faction only, I opted for one core set plus one of each expansion on the rebel side and I picked up the dice for cheap.

If one was going to continue to purchase imperial and rebel down the road (each release) and wanted to regularly have options for 800pts of either at any given time... then buying two cores seems to be a solid value.

I wanted to have enough to have a decent sized game with both factions so I ended up buying two cores and one of each expansion.

I bought a core set and one of each expansion when they came out. That lets you field a decent, fairly balanced 800-point army, but you're using everything you have. You just don't have any options other than switching out some upgrades. I decided on another core set to open up some possibilities for other army builds. You can do a lot more with five trooper squads and three support units.

There is literally another thread on the first page that answers this question. XD

I bought 2 cores and one of each of the expansions.

Trading my rebels for imperials and grabbing a second core. I plan on running Vader + 6 troopers and 2 bikes or 5 troopers and 3 bikes. I might pick up an atst but I’d rather wait to see what the spec ops are for imperials. Def picking up veers and the 3rd commander for options.
