Benefits of additional Core Set vs. Stormtrooper Unit Expansion for more Stormtroopers

By Mezmaron, in Star Wars: Legion

I wanted to pickup one or two additional units of Stormtroopers, but then wondered -- is it just better to buy another Core Set (assuming I could sell the excess models)?

Would I be missing out on anything (important cards or new model sculps) in the Stormtroopers Unit Expansion that I wouldn't get in another Core Set?

Thanks! Mez

The Stormtroopers expansion comes with the impact grenades and Grappling Hooks upgrade cards instead of the concussion grenades and targeting scopes. Personally, I'd suggest the second core set since you'll get more dice, more speeder bikes, etc., can trade/sell/use the extra rebels, and both of the aforementioned cards come in the snowtroopers expansion as well (And Snowtroopers are better impact grenade users anyway)

Thank you!

Are Impact Grenades an auto-include, more or less? How many do you get in the Unit Expansion box - just one card?

Impact Grenades are a solid inclusion to a short ranged anti-armor squad like squads with ion weapons. Stormtroopers tend to be longer ranged, though, so impact grenades aren't essential.

If your metagame is building heavy (Say, with a bunch of 40k ruins), the grappling hooks actually may be the more important upgrade.

Edit: Oh, right. One copy of each upgrade. The only expansion to have an extra of an upgrade card so far is the speeder bikes, which have two Comms Jammers.

Also if you are planning on getting snowtroopers you can get impact grenades and grappling hooks there too.
