Anyone else buying into the new "BattleTech" and MechWarrior 5?

Most likely GRH-5H, BL-6-KNT and FLS-8K, as those were the 3025 variants.

But of course, if there is modifications and prototype/advanced tech at points, you can probably rebuild them to semi comparable.

Oh for some reason I thought the BL-6-KNT and FLS-8K were the original models not the post Secession War tech backslide models.

The Grasshopper will be in the game. The Black Knight is a possibility, but unconfirmed.

Cool fortunately by the time we're getting heavies modding a 5H into a 5N should be easy. Its just switching out a couple of weapons.

As long as Battletech game contains ZERO clan stuff, I'm willing to try it.

It's not that the Clans are so bad in and of themselves, but their introduction completely ruined the medieval lost-tech vibes the setting originally had.

Really IMO Lostech was already on the way out when the Clans hit. Once the NAIS got a copy of the Gray Death core it started regaining lost technologies. The Clans just sped the process up massively.

Yeah, but that shows the difference between a game set in 3025/6 vs 3040.

The primary Clan Invasion timeline is 3052 after all

The BattleTech wiki is a time sink nearly as bad as TvTropes. Beware!

Yeeeah, Sarna is like that.

BattleTech is my first game. It’s where I started my love affair with miniatures, and where I cut my teeth on games design and development.

For everything I seem to know about Armada, I’ve been doing this for what, 3 years now basically?

BattleTech, I’ve lived for 30, or close to... ?

i joke that I know BattleTech history and story better than I know real world history.

its not a joke.

Same.

One of my regrets is that in all my time in the game industry I never got to work for FASA. :(

I only worked for FASA under the auspices of the Marauder program. But I did work for a group trying to translate the game directly online for a time, with messages back and forth with Randall directly ?

I do love me some Battletech and play maybe once a year.

I've often thought if I won the lottery I would buy out the property and try to resurrect it with an appropriate amount of funding. There is just so much potential.

My big choice now is...

... GOG or Steam...

Both have the same pre order bonuses, so thst is a wash.

GOG is of course DRM free and comes with Shadowrun as a freebie too...

Steam has of course its own vicious brand of DRM, but it updates and patches at light speed in comparison, and is likely to be the better platform for Multiplayer gaming...

... decisions...

Unless it is an online game, I never had DRM issues with Steam. Playing offline that is.

Not really.

But I have a lingering hatred of Steam.

i first encountered it when Half Life was first released in Australia..... where immediately the discs would not work and I had to download the entire game.

... on what amounted to a 14.4 modem...

........for the record I've got to say man I love high speed internet. You reminded me of dark days.

Been watching more videos of BattleTech, I'm pretty excited for it.

Let go of the hatred. That was when steam was just starting out so issues were bound to happen. The platform was ahead of its time back then but remains one of the best today in a space riddled with DRM shitness

My first encounter was with Civ 5 release. I hated Civ 5 because it wasn't Civ 4, and thus hated Steam because it came with the game. Oh how wrong I was.

Also, GmG is offering 15% off Battletech and I bet you can get a Steam key with the purchase.

My desktop is ancient. This game is likely to be the excuse I use to upgrade to a new one.

See, that sounds like good times.

Yea, I had a Centurion get cored when a Hunchback popped into radar and flank me. And then I was ambushed by 2 Strikers and 2 Manticores. Nearly lost my full medium lance. I was boxed on 3 sides and literally punched my way out.

Most of the 1 star reviews mention that ACs are currently broken.

I was going to pick it up but figured I'd wait till after worlds and see how the pocketbook looks. Now after reading 1 star after 1 star review I might wait till its patched and see if any of the ratings improve.

Those ratings are from people that have no idea how the game works.

AC's can be countered. Everything has a counter, but like with any meta, there are things that work better but doesn't make it game breaking.
